Me and my riding buddy Jim (jrdugueod) finally tackled the very impressive and intimidating San Juan trail today! It’s 11.5 miles (DH only) of hardcore trails with some steep ups but mostly down. It VERY closely resembles Tahoe Rim trail that we did at this year’s CMW, except it’s not as high up, HUNDREDS ofmiles closer and even more technical!
Even though we started at 11am, it took us about 3.5 hours to finish, and since we were so busy riding, I didn’t have time to stop and video anything. Plus, Jim had promised his wife he’d be back by 3pm so they could have enough time to get to their dinner date; he was late!
The views and terrain were absolutely magnificent!
Here’s just one pic posted below with more to follow.

here’s a few more…
If anyone’s interested in ever riding this trail, you can get very in-depth, specific info right here: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?from_top=1&route_id=49
San Juan Trail is considered by many to be one of the top 5 trails in Southern California. It can be done as a shuttle or as a climb half way up (to cocktail rock) and back (see other San Juan routes). A favorite version though is to do the lengthy full climb to the top and really earn the celebrated 11+ mile ride back down. It’s a classic!!

Looks like fun. All of our good Muni trails around here seem to be all covered by trees; an open view like yours would be refreshing.
Actually there was quite a lot of shade provided by trees and various foilage lining a lot of the the trails. A great deal of the riding was right on the rim, mere inches from certain death!
The fun thing about this ride was that it was 95% rideable! Nice varied terrain and views. Highly recommended route for XC inclined Muniers.
that looks like alot of fun on a muni. That makes me want to go out and unicycle but it’s dark here
where do you carry your camera when you ride?
in my camelbak. it’s a muni dv cam so it doesn’t take much room
There is no better place to MUni!
Where’s that? You mean the one IU posted about?
