Anyone Own the new 20" MUni from Norco?

Im thinkin of spending all my money on buyin the new Norco MUni and I want to hear what people have thought about it before I go out and buy one. Im wondering about stuff like, Has anyone had anyproblems with the frame cracking? The hub breakin? Crank arms bending? How the tire is when hoppin? stuff like that stuff that I should know about it. Thanks for your time.

Brokenframe,

I’m equaly curious about why you are considering this cycle- what does it feature?

Well I like Norco, and its a unicycle that I can afford, and its in Canadian dollars to, Nad yes to Maxfield the new Norco has come out, its the 20" one and its already out. Well atleast at the bke shop here its in, they actually got one in the store which is cool.

Re: Anyone Own the new 20" MUni from Norco?

OK I guess I should talk about this since it’s been brought up!

Last year Norco came out with a basic trials unicycle which wasn’t really anything new- they just
replaced the tire and rim with a 19" rim and Monty tire. Basically it looks like the United
trials unicycle.

I’ve been trying to convince them for 4 years now to come up with something better, and this year
they agreed to work with me on this.

The advantage of working with a company such as Norco is that, although you lose a bit of
flexibility in terms of what you can do, you can bring the cost way down due to the efficiencies
of production of a large company.

So to make a long story short, there’s nothing to review yet because nothing is yet out, but in a
couple of months Norco will be marketing a good quality 20" trials unicycle and a good quality 24"
unicycle.

It’s not. I got another prototype frame back from Taiwan today- it’s OK but still needs some
work. It’s a bit challenging communicating with builders that live thousands of km’s away.

whats the norco thats in at the bike shop?

Well thers a norco with a fat tire, and it looks like the old norco’s but its got a different type of baring holder, and better crank armsn, and hub, and…rim? Thats the norco that i want to get, and im wondering how good that one is.

Kris Holm OK I guess I should talk about this since it’s been brought up!

O, thats probably what I saw then, I got it mixed up i guess. well anyone know how well the trials Norco is?

Re: Anyone Own the new 20" MUni from Norco?

I don’t own one myself but I’ve tried the so called “mountain unicyle” from
Norco. It is the new 20" model that was available at the very end of 2001.
It sells for $200 Can and quite a few have already been sold through various
shops here in Calgary.

I don’t personally think it is really a mountain unicycle in any way. It is
a great improvement over the past Norcos in the last 5 years but it is still
only a $200 unicycle and it will break. I’ve done some minor trials riding
on it, it rides really smooth, is quite light and does feel fairly strong.
I was able to do a number of 2 foot hops and drops comfortably on it right
away and it was good for that. I will say that my experience in trials
makes the drops and hops very smooth and I did not ever land hard with a lot
of force. (It wasn’t mine so I sure didn’t want to break it).

The fat tire is great for making the ride smoother and is awesome for
learning hops and drops. The cranks are an improvement as well as the
viscount seat over what the Norco used to come with.

BTW: There have been a number of posts from other riders with it in the
forum on our club page at http://www.ethereal3d.com if you’re interested in
checking those out. Some people love em (the ones that are learning to uni)
and experience riders I think will break them (and some have).

Anyway, I think it is great that Norco is working to improve these (and you
too Kris!) and I hope that they are going to have an even better version for
mountain unicycling (including a new 24" model) like Kris mentioned.

Re: Anyone Own the new 20" MUni from Norco?

My new Norco Trials Uni is laying in pieces, many pieces, on my bedroom floor.
It is good for up to 1 and 2 foot drops, as long as you have good technique, a
very good entry level trails ride. Not good for 5 footers… good for riding
technical stuff with small drops… The rim is really strong and the tire is a
beaut. If you do light riding, or if you are a light rider, go for this uni!
now!
P.S. the cranks are horrible, (aka lascos)

Re: Anyone Own the new 20" MUni from Norco?

Did you disassemble it, or actually break the frame riding, or did you
sledgehammer it or what? If the frame broke, can you post a picture or
describe where?

Re: Anyone Own the new 20" MUni from Norco?

the frame didn’t break, my axle broke, and then I took everything apart… my
frame did break on my original norco though… right above the bearing holder
(lollipop)…
I dont have the frame anymore… it’s probably at the dump right now…

reply

I have to say that my norco’s the old 20" and the 24" both frames also have cracked were the lolipop bearing holders attach to the frame, but this is understandable when they are street unicycles, and I dont think that they were made for drops, and stuff. But I am very happy with the rest of the unicycle, the cranks and hub, and rim havnt given me any problems, but the seat I find is terrable, its hard and hurts and when I hop I hold onto the front and theres not much to hold onto on the Viscount seats.
