Access denied for muni!!!

Help!!! I am having trouble muni-ing!!! Not the riding itself (although some may argue;) ) but just where I want to ride. My love for unicycling and snow have gotten me fixated on getting muni access to ski slopes (during the winter and not just during the summer months). I have called a bunch of ski resorts in the area (VA, MD, WVA, PA) and all of them have denied me access. They all have the same response: their insurance will not cover it. Bla bla bla… I have insurance! I’ll sign a waiver! But sadly…still no. On the positive side, there were a couple of resorts that said that they were working towards letting bikes and other non-ski/snowboard adventurists on their snow covered slopes and encouraged me to call back again next year. So I guess what I am asking is does anyone have permission to ride at a ski resort? Where? What all did you have to tell them? Did you have to sign away your life on a waiver? Unicycling is an addiction that can only be cured by having more of it  Please help me get on the slopes. Together we can fight for unicycle rights!

I know of a guy who got to ride his muni on ski slopes but unfourtunately for you, he lives in Utah.

Hi,

People have a hard enough time visualizing MUni over the phone, let alone snow unicyling!

On One Tired Guy, the filmshort Whitetrax was filmed partly at a ski resort, and partly in the
backcountry during particularly hard snow conditions.

The only reason I got permission to ride at the ski resort was because we were officially on a
location scout for a TV show. Even then, they assigned us a ski patroller on a snowmobile to
follow us around all day. We wouldn’t have been allowed otherwise.

Backcountry in late season might be the best anyway, when the snow has hardened up. Just get up
early on a clear morning and ride until it gets too soft. And you’ll never have to ask
permission.

booger,
What resorts in PA have you tried. Blue Mountain had a downhill race on
snow this winter and other riders were able to try the course. (I didn’t)

Access denied for muni!!!

Jeff,
Off hand the ones i can remember (i left my list at work) were Wisp (MD), Ski Liberty, Ski Roundtop, and white tail in PA. There were others as well but Blue Mountain was definately not one of them. I will try them on monday and I will post something if i get permission. Otherwise i just may take Kris’s advice and take a television crew (you know some friends with video cameras  ) it would be worth a try!
Thanks for the info!

ps Kris, have you talked to Kevin Stitzinger lately?

try the backyard of the sick poeple: area51, a good challange!

This is somewhat off the subject, but what kinds of places
have you all found to ride a Muni?

Obviously there’s parks, hiking and mountain-biking trails,
ski slopes, what else?

It’s often useful to remember that a unicycle is just another cycle, might
be worth asking if you can have access to cycle rather than to unicycle,
they’ll assume you mean bike, you might get chucked off if they see you
unicycling, but once you’ve got permission to cycle and got out there and
ridden, you’ve got a better argument for staying out.

Don’t know anything about skiing areas, but are there places that have snow
and slopey bits and aren’t in the resort areas?
