Hey Simon,
I’m sorry to be a nark and such but posting other peoples video isnt cool especially when they are trying to make a living through promotion of themselfs. If you have permission from the NWD people its one thing but if not please take them down.
Cheers
Mike
Dude that first video was soo friking sick. Wow, I’ve never seen that kind of stuff, it was awosme. Plus his last name is chase so hes cool.
Chase
What?!
How?!
&)&$ that!
oh sorry about that. I didn’t try to look cool, I just wanted you guys to see how good they are. Just tell me how I delete them?
Simon
.
so- Eric Porter or Aaron Chase??? whos better?
Yay I get a new street bike Bikes own unicycles for street i need to practice my 180s awesome vid I like run-on sentences
You’ll have to ask Gilby to delete the file. He’s the only one who can delete files in the free4all gallery.
Okey thanks, and again, sorry.
Simon
I disagree. The guys don’t have vast marketing budgets, so “word of mouth” like what has happened here helps the a ton. I didn’t know either existed until he posted the videos, and having seen their work, I would be inclined to buy a DVD with them on it.
At “least” the videos were educational.
At “most” they help get the word out about great riders.
that’s what I think too…
I agree that these video’s are cool and that sharing them is a good thing, however the unicyclist.com galleries are not the means for doing it. You can not argue that hosting the segmenets is copywrite infindgement by doing that you are not the one with the burdon of responsebility, its Gilby. He is the one who would face any leagal course of actoin for distributing the video. Its just not fair for him to do someting like that.
Cheers
Mike
…
Yeah.
That guy is nuts
Nope. You took it from a “moral issue” to a “legal issue.”
Still, I disagree:
While it is “Gilby’s forum” and server space, he did not mean to infringe on anyone’s copyright. Does that make it OK?
I don’t think so.
However, consider what would happen if the rider DID get pissed off about the video being on the server.
At best, he will hire legal counsel who will write a “cease and desist letter.”
At THAT point Gilby could simply remove the file and that would be the end of it.
Do you think that a judge would really find that the rider was “damaged” and should be compensated by Gilby?
If so, how much? Perhaps part of the profit that Gilby made? Or, perhaps part of the profit that the rider can prove he lost?
As you and I both know, there are little consequences for GIlby hosting such a file up until the request to have it removed (or significant damage can be proven).
This perception is barring the fact that there were not credits or copyright in the actual film itself. It’s barring the fact that the guy probably PREFERS having other “extreme sportsmen” knowing of his work. Finally, it’s barring the fact that if I see this guy’s DVD, I will buy it - the clip was great “sales media.”
It’s not immoral.
It’s not hurtful.
It’s not illegal.
It’s no more damaging than numerous video clips of “our unicycle greats” floating around the Internet.
Here’s thanks to both eljest and Gilby for “sponsoring” this clip!
