A rare ride!

Finally got out on the bloomin’ thing this afternoon. I bought a new fluorescent windproof/waterproof top about 3 weeks ago and I’ve been too busy to ride!

With three nights a week fencing and one night dancing,I thought my legs were still pretty strong - but riding the Coker on slimy single track soon convinced me otherwise! 7.7 miles covered in an hour, and a top speed (on tarmac) of 12 mph. The Coker was easy enough to ride, but my coordination’s all gone to pieces with the lay off so I can’t hit the speeds I was hitting when I was training early this summer.

One failed mount on tarmac - the sort where the Coker sets off behind you on its own, falls over, the pedal digs in, the wheel stops, and the frame and seat whip round in a scything motion until the seat slams into the floor. Oooh! And with a spectator too.

Then there was the heroic recovery from a slide slip on mud… followed by the ignominious failure to recover from a sideslip in a dog’s egg. Yuk!

Still fun though.

I don’t ‘do’ Christmas as such, but I hope everyone has a nice few days in late December.

Re: A rare ride!

We call this “Decemberitis”. We recently took a MUni ride that left us puffing 1/2 way up the hills. In July we can make it to the tops with competence and consistency. Not these days.

But, for us in the Northern Hemisphere, since two days ago, the days are getting longer.

I wish dogs really did lay eggs instead of poop kinda like yoshi in video games. MMM dino-saur omelette!

Re: Re: A rare ride!

I hate to say it, but Thanksgiving took a toll on my riding diet… This definitely affects the hills!

Mike,

I’m really curious where that quote at the bottom of your post came from. I
know it says, “The Times.” What’s the story with that story? The quote is
a hoot.
