Haven’t seen someone recommend this lacing yet for 48 hole hub onto 36 hole rim. Correct me if I am wrong. It is called crows foot lacing, one short two long spokes.
If every fourth hole is skipped it then allows a symmetric lace with only two spoke lengths required. I am sure a 3-4 cross as ussually used would be stronger, but the question is not which is stronger, but rather is it strong enough? Hoping to use it for 26" wheel.
Here is a rough sketch
I already have a 48 hole hub and can get the rim cheaply. Don’t have the funds for a new hub, would have a hard time getting into the country and most importantly I love to tinker.
Experts, please chip in.
I laced up a 48 hole BMX hub into a 36h rim for my BC wheel, and just pretended that every 4th hole didn’t exist and did it 3 cross.
The spoke holes are close enough togetther on my hub that it’s worked out OK but for a high performance wheel and/or larger hub I’d certainly do it differently.
Modern rims and spokes are generally very good, so I suspect you’d get away with most spoke patterns for light riding.
according to physical logic, shortest spoces (brown) are extra here. They are overloaded and will be broken all before the system begin works properly.
