360 Spin?

Ive been riding for 8 years now, but Ive never cared about the skill level’s until recently. Now I am a level 3 and all I have to do is ride one foot- (I’m getting close as I learned how to one foot idle two weeks ago) and the other thing I have to do is a 360 spin to the right and the left. I can do a 180 jump and spin to the right and the left (which I think is level 7 but I’m not sure) but I cant figure out how to spin 360 degrees~ any tips?
Thanks,
<CJ><

According to unicycling.org the 360 is not a skill in the list of levels, but the trick is extremely fun to do once you can do it.
Dan is the man for the job, he busted out a perfect 360 at the Unicon for the oppening cerimonies. I myself am still working to perfect this trick, i can pull it off 4 out of 10 tries. I’m sure if i had a trials it would make it alot easier…hurry up santa, dang it! Its pretty tricky, you have to muster all the momentum you can get. What I do to preform this:
start riding
I take my hand that is free
put it up in the air and behind me, making my shoulder turn out
Then reach down and across
and pull up fast like your starting the lawn moer up at the same instant you pull up on the saddle to hop
and try to hold your hand out untile you land.

These motions are realy quik and smooth.
At first I wasn’t used to the motions of spining quickly, so i tried 360’s on things that might be more easier to pull off. I learned to 360 on a scooter and it helped a bunch! ( WARNING: scooters are extremely dangerous!!!) If scooter seems hard, try rollerblades…It will help a bit because it involves the same motions. Also practice on foot, it might seems funnny but hey.
Well Yoda has spoken…

I think level 4 “spin” 360 means ride around in a tight circle under control and ride out again…

Leo White

Level 4
demonstrate 4 types of mounts
ride backward for 10 meters
ride one footed for 10 meters
idle with left foot down 25 times
idle with right foot down 25 times
ride with seat out in front for 10 meters
ride with the seat out in back for 10 meters
make a 360 degree turn to the left inside a 1 meter circle
make a 360 degree turn to the right inside a 1 meter circle

Re: 360 Spin?

Yoda has spoken, but not on the correct subject. The asker of ‘how do you
do a 360 spin?’ wanted to know how to do it without the hop – in order to
pass level 4. The wonderful description below is for a non-rated 360 hop.

To ‘spin’ a 360, you basically can try falling in the direction you’re
going to do the spin. But remember, you’re pedalling, so it’s really a
super sharp circle you’re doing, not a pirouette. Anyhoo, you might find
this possible: 1. Stop pedalling for a second. 2. Lean in the direction of
the spin till you’re just about falling, then 3. Quickly turn in as small
a circle as you can. At first you might make only 180 to 270 degrees of
the circle. Just keep at it until you can really lean over without falling
(in step 1). By the way, arms play a role in this, as they do in figure
skating spins.

Spins & Turns

Leo is right, for levels 2,3 & 4 you only need to do sharp turns within a 1x1 meter square. Frontspins/Backspins, Spins, and Pirouettes are in levels 6-9.

Go to http://www.unicycling.org/usa/levels/

Scroll down to 10.4.1 for SHARP 90/180/360 DEGREE TURNS

and 10.4.7 adn 10.4.8 for BACKSPIN/FRONTSPIN & SPINS

I can’t function without my coffee, must go to the kitchen now…

edit: you see what happens when you post without coffee? a better post jumps in front of you.

Spin vs. turn.

Jon is correct in saying that a 360 turn is not a skill as defined in the list of skills in the USA rulebook. However, if you read the definition of a spin in section 7.0, it defines a spin as riding around a fixed point with the outer diameter of the circular path not exceeding 1 meter. The requirement for the 360 turn in skill level 4 is the same with the exception of the number of revolutions. The spin by definition needs to be at least 3 revs whereas the level 4 360 turn requests only one rev.

360 spin

so all i really have to do is go in a complete circle and keep the diameter of my circle smaller than one meter?

master-yoda

speak to soon Yoda does,360 unispin?clouded your answer is.

Re: 360 spin

Yes, and as long as you maintain continuous forward motion. Many of our kids ask if they can sort of “idle” around in the circle. The answer is of course “no.”

I’m sorry, but when he said jump and spin i thought that meant a different thing from just spining. heh oh well, now he can try a full 360 jump and spin instead of just spining. Please be carefull what you say people! How am i supposed to know he wanted it without the hop when he said jump and spin???
Yoda has been accused of someone else’s typo…
