20" Mini Hatchet

Hi, you can still get 40x22x12mm brearings easy enough. However the pressed bearing cups on mine were approx 13.5mm wide, so you will need a 1.5mm bearing spacer to make it work.

Mini Hatchet ISIS brake conversion

Hi, see my comments and pictures at the bottom of this thread. I am a big kid so although I have 3 big boy hatchets, I could not miss out, on some mini fun. Full ISIS Brake conversion, full Nimbus spec, bar the cranks. You can go down 3 routes, all work just fine. Everything fits no problem. Enjoy

Even on the d’brake - love it!

I’m not familiar with the original spec re bearing cups - did you modify them, and if so how? How would you have used the 40x22x12 bearings - would that be to enable a splined axle to be used with a cotterless 40mm bearing housings?

Hello, the frame comes with pressed bearing cups, 40x17x12mm bearings and a cotterless hub and cranks. To convert to an ISIS hub, cranks etc you have 3 options
Option 1: would be to keep the pressed bearing cups and use 40x22x12mm bearing, which would covert to an ISIS hub. However the pressed cups on mine were 13.5mm, so you would need a bearing spacer @ 1.5mm to fill the space. Lots of wiggle room in the pressed cups, and tollerances are tight. 1.5mm free movement would be too much if you want a brake fitted. So cheapest option. This would give you an ISIS hub but no brake.
Option 2: As above, but you would need to weld a brake mount from a donor frame.
Option 3: Nimbus 42mm machined bearing cups, and that makes the D.brake fit, and the 42x22x12mm std ISIS bearings fit.
So to answer your question, I had the pressed cups removed and machined cup welded on instead, thats why it needed a re-paint.
Some pictures attached for you.

Hope that answers everything

Hi, I have given a detailed response with pictures, unfortunately its held up, waiting for admin approval. Hopefully it should be available soon.

The bit I really like about @MadHatchetAndy set up is the detail which went in to the brake, it is a 160mm disc so that it looks appropriate to the wheel size. Excellent!

Agreed about the brake, but the paint is spot on.

Wow, that’s fantastic and detailed answer - thank you. Will be looking at it some more - I have a couple of frames where I’m considering whether to do those sort of mods - much appreciated
