19" KH freeride rim vs Alex DX32 19" rim

I was thinking about switching my rim from an Alex DX32 trials rim to a KH Freeride trials rim.

Ive heard that the KH is wider, stronger, and easier to get the tire off. Is there any truth to this or should i just keep my Alex rim?

Thanks

Wha

Truth?! Truth is just a perception.

BUT

Yes it is true. Alex DX32 rims are notorious for getting the tyre off (I know, I have one!)

And Roger from UDC.co.uk told me (I hope he doesn’t mind) that KH freeride rims are stronger and getting the tyre off is easier.

BUT

Is it really worth spending £22 (about $45) for a rim that’s slightly stronger and is slightly easier to get the tyre off?

Unless

Unless you are a serious pro and these things really make a difference (you’ve been doing trials nearly as long as I have (I recall from another thread)), there’s no point.

For £30

You could get a UDC Gel Saddle
Or a Koxx Reinforced Seatpost (27.2mm)
Even some Harbinger Extreme Gloves

Hope this helps_AndyC

 1. I like my saddle
 2. My frame wont take 27.2mm
 3. I already have Mace race gloves

Thanks though

I think ill just keep my Alex until its gets tacoed then ill switch to KH

I’m gonna do exactly the same thing

ps. My frame wont take 27.2mm either
I like my saddle too
I aleady have gloves aswell

Have you broken your DX32? If not, why take that the KH claims to be stronger as an argument.

And when do you need to take the tyre off anyway? When changing rim is one answer… If it’s because you get pinch flats, run a higher preassure.
Or if it’s because your wheel gets untrue (and don’t want to use a spoke key)?

And shouldn’t a rim that is harder to get a tyre on… more secure from having the tyre slipping off? It has happened…

And, if you still think it is worth it: Do you really want to both buy a new rim, and then either spending time and work on relacing it yourlesf, or more money to have someone else to do it?

Edit: Oh, allready decided, sorry.

Ride it 'til you break it, then switch. I’ve recently moved from the DX32 24" to the KH freeride 24" rim, theh tyre is more stable on the wider rim but it doesn’t make sufficient difference to consider swapping just for this reason.

I dont have the time or the money to switch out right now anyways…I just wanted your guys opinion.
