"0 to 40mph in 28 seconds"

A few comments of what it is like to be a trader at a convention. I have
just returned from the British Juggling Convention where Unicycle.com had a
trade stand.

I would like to thank all of the unicyclists (and jugglers) who frequented
our stall over the weekend. I don’t just meant because they came and spent
money at the stand (but many did) but for the way that they rallied around
to help run the show. I was very proud of the unicyclist community who
helped to move boxes, build unicycles, offer advice to those who needed it
and just generally hung around the stall. When ever I needed help I had an
army of helpers!

It was an incredibility hard few days, being constantly on-call, never
having a moments peace, working when others played. The BJC was only a 4
day convention and had only 800 participants, I am not sure I could cope
with being a trader if I was asked to at NUC and UNICON… and I know that
John and Amy will be there! I have some inkling now of how hard it will be
for them and the other traders who will be there. I will certainly be
offering them as much help and support as I can so that they can also enjoy
the convention.

The subject line comes from a comment made about my 30 year old VW van that
towed a trailer while absolutely full of stock the 800mile round trip this
weekend.

Tom Miller had a good one too. After the 1992 Nationals in Minnesota, we
were leading Tommy in his old school bus to the Cotter home. His (44
passenger) bus had a worn out old Chevy V8 in it, and was clearly not up to
the task of going anywhere fast.

While rounding an exit ramp off the freeway, with us pulled onto the
shoulder to wait, we could hear him on his bus’ PA system: “I’M PEDALING AS
FAST AS I CAN.”
