What did the top muni riders ride at Unicon?

they should have it by age and then have a sub category of breaks or break less.

Didn’t he use Romain’s KH26 disc?

yes you’re right, for cross country, he uses Romain’s 26 with disc and not rim brake

Yeah, the results format could be better, like one overall list and then the different age groups.

For completeness, it’s a KH. (Powdercoated by Darren Bedford).

Cool idea for a thread. I just got back to Oz from Europe so I can add to the list a little bit. I know Seisuke Kobayashi was riding a custom 26" disc brake muni with 150s, and what looked like a UST (tubeless) compatible rim/ tyre. Ken Looi’s geared muni had 150mm cranks and a lightweight 2.2" tyre. I was one of the only riders in the top handful of people who competed with the exact same setup for all the muni events- and to be honest, i think apart from the muni obstacles comp (which lots of people treated like another trials comp and rode smaller wheels for it which was kinda cheating) i don’t think my results suffered from it. It is nice to only have to take one uni and be able to compete at a high level in all the Muni events.

Thanks for the update, Mark! Quite a huge Europe trip you did! Was nice to meet you at Grischa

Actually Ken’s uni had 137mm cranks.

And one of the worst 2.3" tyres I’ve ever ridden. But it was light.

Yeah, the tire was pretty awful.

I made the greatest expert downhill time:
2 hours and a half.
KH 24 (2004 edition) brakeless.
Needless to say I “walked” (or crawled) through 80% of the race

two hours more fun than most of the other riders:D

and 2 weeks of really painfull legs, then.

OMG! I didn’t even know I was fifth place in XC! That’s… CRAZY!

As Hugo said, I was riding a Geared 24"x3" for the XC race with a rim brake. My brake kept breaking during my trip, I repaired it with ShoeGoo for the XC race. It worked, but I was scared to use it too hard so I waited for the second lap to use it properly.

Ha, awesome!

I take it 30+ doesn’t count then. Or female. Or under 19.

Whatever…

To me I was among the top riders anyways.
:D:D:D

Having just 5 riders for each category is just for the sake of simplicity, otherwise the list would be 10 times as long and impossible to finish with all the details.

Agreed

I am under 19 :stuck_out_tongue:

In relative terms, quite true I’m sure.

The other day I was riding my KH trials near downtown with a friend of mine. We came upon a huge crowd of kids (fifty or more 12-16 year olds) with some adult chaperones. Evidently, they had been in the area for some type of event. Anyway, they all started cheering and clapping for us. The sidewalk was narrow so they parted like the Red Sea to give us room.

My friend, who makes a living juggling in front of crowds, can ride and juggle at the same time, but he doesn’t hop at all. So, he dismounted to get up the curb. I pulled up behind him and hopped in place for a while, then side hopped up and over the curb. The crowd went wild!! Later on my friend told me that with most kids, just the fact that you can ride a Uni makes you the best they have ever seen. The fact that I could hop that tiny curb made me an “Elite” rider in their eyes. Most of the general public in my area has never heard of Kris Holm or Muni.

Me too… I was among the top riders drinking beer after the event
