Nimbus "Lefty" frame invented at the Kidderminster unimeet

I’ll let Gary explain exactly how this managed to miss gouging huge chunks out of his leg, but here’s a photo of the second casualty of the hockey at the unimeet yesterday. (The first casualty was a hockey stick, caused by some schmuck* riding over it and cracking the plastic blade…)

Incidentally so much for my exhausting weekend; we got half way to Afan in a friend’s car before the car broke down, and had to return very slowly with a car with a blown head gasket…

Haha thats a great picture, plus a great achievement.

Trev

I think it broke because of the sheer power I exert in accelerating and turning while playing hockey though my son says it’s the extra Xmas weight I’m carrying, kids are nice like that.

When it happed I thought a hockey stick was in my spokes but it wasn’t and how I escaped with just a tiny cut I really don’t know – skill I guess (or maybe luck  )

you should post this on busteduni.com
very nice achievment (except that you must now replace it)

Duct tape!!

Holy crap I thought that frames breaking was just a myth. I can understand that some might bend for things like cokers but never a freestyle uni.

YES spencer.
You have now been accepted into the D.W.F.A.A. (the Ducttape Will Fix Anything Association)
your application will be in the mail shortly.

Don’t you hate when that happens? That happened to me once, but at least the frame cracked before breaking all the way through. Unfortunately this was during the USA Nationals, on the way to Unicon the last time I competed in Freestyle. I had to compete at Unicon (VII) on a borrowed unicycle. Then someone “tripped over the audio cord” during my performance and the music went out…

So much for the one new trick I had that year, the Pedal Walk.

I hereby represent the 11,000+ members of this forum who all want to know what that is.

Hmm, pedal walk… maybe it’s where you walk on the pedals?

It’s a trick that breaks your frame.

It is not a trick where you walk on the pedals. It’s where the unicycle walks on one of its pedals while you stand on top. Sorry about the hijack. I’ll describe this once, but any further discussion should be made in a new thread.

First you need pedals with double ends, such as these:
http://www.unicycle.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=217
There were these pedals that used to come on the old Semcycles. They were better than those and were my preferred for Freestyle. I think the brand was NHK but they aren’t made any more. Anyway, you need the two ends so the pedal can “walk.”

Then you lay the unicycle down on its side, with the floor-facing pedal at the bottom position. Stand with your feet on the tire, squeezing the frame and top pedal between them. Cafefully rock your feet up and down, and the unicycle will “walk” very slowly as the weight transfers from one side of the pedal to the other. I forget which direction it walks, but I think it’s away from the seat.

Because the unicycle is laying down and there are 2 and 3 weight-bearing contact points with the floor, this does not count as a “unicycling skill” in Freestyle judging. It’s all Presentation points. But the sideways stresses cracked the leg off my old Miyata frame.

Now I use soft rubber-ended Japanese Freestyle pedals, round on the ends, and don’t do that trick mostly because I don’t have access to a gym, and don’t want to switch pedals just for one trick. But I made it up myself!

Wow, that’s quite impressive. Glad you’re ok though. Are you still going
to be able to play on tuesday?

Roger

I’m picking my car up from the garage tomoro after having a blown headgasket repaired.
While it was there, it also got a 100 000km service.
If it’s your car, I feel your pain.

Haha im also a member

does it still ride okay?

I shall be at hockey with my trusty rounded crown frame being brought out of retirement until I get a new frame. I’m looking at the Nimbus X frame, isn’t that the one you have Roger? I’d like to know how it is for one-footed stuff.

BTW it broke so cleanly I think it could be welded and I might do but only as a backup.

One good thing is that it cost me nothing, Trev (unicycleboy) gave it to me, hmm maybe he treated it roughly while he had it and knew more than he said  lol

Haha oh yeh forgot i gave that to you! me treating my unicycle roughly? :stuck_out_tongue:
