creaking

is it possible that a KH ISIS hub can make the sound of creaking spokes?

having trouble trying to track down a noise…

Yup, it’s from how they put the flanges on the hub. Quite a few threads on it if you search.

I keep suggesting green loctite and people keep saying that something so simple as dropping some penetrating loctite on the interface can’t work but I don’t think anyone has tried yet. If you do try that please let us know if it works or not.

I don’t have one of these hubs, but I did have one of the Profile hubs with keyway slop and can attest that green loctite didn’t help for more than one ride.

Hey guy’s, I had one of these creaking hubs. It was in a kh 24 wheelset I bought on the forum;). Since it was bought second hand on the forum, it wasn’t covered under warranty.
I fixed it by disassembling the wheel, pulling bearings and flanges with a bearing puller, applying a good cold weld product like loctite weld or JB weld,
and reassembling everything. It now works like a charm and is quite as a mouse.
From what I understand, they’ve addressed the tolerance issues w the newer hubs, so if it is under warranty, maybe you can exchange it.
good luck man.

Hey RahBee,

Glad to hear you chime in, especially saying how you fixed yours. I felt awful when you told me that I sold you a defective hub. Made me think that I should have tested it first, but then it wouldn’t have been “new and unused”. Glad to hear you fixed it but disappointed to hear that they wouldn’t do warranty work for you.

thanks guys

That’s interesting. I just assumed a warranty would cover the part for a certain amount of time regardless of who owns it. So you void your warranty by selling the uni?

No worrys Eric, It was acually my first wheel build, and turned out to be a learning experience.
cheer’s,
RahBee

Sorry to hear about your hub. The new hubs are not fixed, already had one creaking and a friend has had two fixed hubs creak.

Nothing personal, but i really doubt that any sort of glue or locktite is going to fix a loose interface, otherwise the mfg and UDC would have already fixed the problem.

If you are under warranty, then send it back. If you’re out of warranty, then Try the green loctite and report back.

Personally, i’d suggest folks avoid those hubs until the problem is really fixed.

The new Nimbus hubs are sweet

But don’t mice squeak? :stuck_out_tongue:

hahaha

I got my rebuilt 36er back yesterday. It’s very quiet climbing:). I hope the new hub won’t break down again. I can’t tell from the conversation if these newest hubs are still failing or if they are fixed?

Does the creaking noise eventually lead to real problems or is it just an annoyance?

this is my opinion if i am spending that much on a uni i want it to be quiet

A dead mouse? haha

I would guess after a couple hundred miles the interface tolerance may threaten to fail… If you are patient enough to squeek that far, you deserve a trophy.:stuck_out_tongue:
