I made an impulse purchase of a unicycle around the year 2002, but I didn’t have any luck learning to ride. I quickly set it aside. Then in 2005 at age 29, I had encephalitis that destroyed most of the brain cells needed for remembering new info and new skills. I had to find new hobbies, so I dusted off the uni and learned to do basic mounting and simple turns on it. When those skills entered my motor memory, they remained intact and were not forgotten. I enjoyed riding hundreds of hours over a span of a couple of years. I then put unicycling on hold 15 years because of other issues that resulted from the encephalitis, but in 2022 I resumed riding. Much of my riding was on non-bumpy paved trails, but in 2024 I started riding a muni on unpaved hilly trails in the forest. I enjoy riding the unicycle because it helps link me to the great outdoors and also because it tends to cheer people up who see someone riding a unicycle. (I live in the US state of Mississippi, and seeing someone riding a uni is extremely rare.) I have a 20" Sun I bought around 2002, a 29" UDC Titan from 2023, and a 29" Nimbus muni from 2024. Cheers!
