In 2003, I won a $100 voucher to a local bike shop after riding my bicycle on a 180 mile weekend tour. I was so sore, I didn’t even want to look at my bike for a long while but I went to the shop anyway. Hanging in the front window was a Sun 24-inch unicycle. When I asked the shop keeper how much, he said $94, and I replied “SOLD!” After 2 years of practice, I bought a 29-er and participated in the same tour on my Nimbus. A flat tire at mile 34 also deflated my confidence in finishing the tour, but I’ve never stopped unicycling for fun and the personal thrill of it. I probably unicycle five times as many miles as I put on my bike now-a-days. I’ve enjoyed a 36-er that I assembled from Nimbus and Coker components, a Nimbus 20, and most recently a Nimbus II 24. My goals for 2024 are to idle and hop on the Nimbus II.
