I turned on the TV last night and this was on. I didn’t actually know of this concert film of Bowie’s last performance as Ziggy Stardust. It is really fine work. It brought me back, of course, quite a few years as I am just about the age the concert goers in the film are now, too. It was also interesting to watch the young women swooning in a clearly much more pharmaceutically induced way than was typical at a mid-60s Beatles concert, but obviously mesmerized nonetheless in much the same way. It is clear that Bowie’s performance was considered “deep” perchance “heavy”.
Never having seen Bowie in concert I was also surprised at how badly he sings on some of the songs. Also how creepy he could look.
theres lots of Bowie around this house.some of the live performances ive heard are crap.my wife went to see him in Portland years ago and she accually left early! she said it was just to sad.
I saw Bowie in concert. Not by choice though. Nine Inch Nails opened for him and my ride wanted to stay for DB.
The best part was Trent’s last song was ‘Hurt’ (Pre-Johnny Cash hurt–cool video for such an old man…I was pleasantly suprised)
The stage was dark, you heard the opening verse of ‘Hurt’ and then the spotlight shines down and it’s Bowie singing it. The spotlight goes off, reappears about 10 feet over and Trent sings the next verse. Then they combine into a fantastic duet for the rest.
The rest of Bowie’s performance sucked. (Keep in mind that I was about 19 and went there for NIN…perhaps it was better than I recall)
i saw the video of the bowie-reznor duet quite a while ago, halo11 or 12 if i’m not mistaken
pretty kewl
i do hope they get around to organising a cash-reznor duet before the old man leaves
his version and especially the video damn near had me in tears the first time i saw it
i read it had the same effect on trent
it must be freaky when your own song comes back at u like that
