[ZDnet] TinyURL.com: The next YouTube? Perhaps not $1.6B’s worth, but…

Wow, I never thought about it that way.

I bet you totally could sell tinyurl.com to google or someone for a heckuva lot of money, maybe not 1.6 billion, but a lot.

think about how many unicycles you could buy with 1.6 Billion…

Their TinyUrl link has three Ts in http.
What could that mean?

If you sell tinyurl for billions upon billions of dollars, can you get some more servers for the gallery?

Throwing hardware at a crappy piece of code isn’t going to solve the problem.

But for 1.6 billion you can probably get Steve Wozniak or another super human code writer to write up an awsome gallery for you.

Or at least one helluva SUPER STRONG unicycle!

Neat recognition, and some big picture thinking. But he totally missed the neat new supercool preview feature. He’s thinking ad revenue, I’m thinking I don’t want to go to a blind link from an unknown source.

whoaaa, www.tinyurl.com/1 is gilby’s site, and www.tinyurl.com/2 is the forum

I don’t know if this is possible, but it would be neat to see that when you put your cursor over the link instead of it having tinyurl.com/extension have it show what website it is actually going to take you too.

makes sense…3 and 4 are both unicycle.com, and 5 is a unicycle.com error message, 6 is a map to Minneapolis, 7 is tinyurl.com itself…man I could do this all day man!

hahahaha, its fun to type in random ones, like this one!!

Very cool coverage.

…I didn’t realize that techtv.com was evil.

"So, not surprisingly, he’s not contextually delivering targeted advertisements beyond what Yahoo’s ad network can figure out (which Gilbertson says generates enough revenue to make a living on). "

You generate enough money from the Yahoo targeted ads to make a living on?

Over 675 million hits/month.

…that’s certainly non-trivial. .

I need to start thinking of websites.

He’s been saying that for a long time. Maybe now I’ll start to believe him! His mom still doesn’t seem to know how he pays his bills…

The guy has a point in his article. Possibly much more potential for TinyURL if somebody else doesn’t jump in and start doing it first! Kudos Gilby, and thanks again to Gilby and TinyURL for building/maintaining these forums!

Wow, I had no clue you were behind tinyURL Gilby!

Man, I could have coded this if I had the idea… Aww…
