Can anybody make any suggestions as to how I can improve my ASCII-art signature?
O /~|~\ \ | / /^\ |I| ~I| I~

It only looks right in Notepad… I could use a horizontal one:-

O–( >-+o

But it’s not as optimistic :-)…

As for the notepad thing - you’ll have to persuade everyone likely to see your
signature to change to a fixed pitch font.

Using a non-proportional font really helps the drawing, and the viewing. = The
picture only works if your viewing font is set for one of those, = like Fixedsys
or Courier. Also, if your newsreader can only accept = plain text, the picture
might not work, either
