I really like the stand up bass sound in psychobilly. All ive heard much of so far are the Nekromantix though.
So horrorpops i will definitely look into. Any other recommendations along those lines?
I do love rockabilly, however, Nekromantix are considered psychobilly, wich is like rockabilly only crazy/death speaky.
I don’t like the sound of the stand up bass in Nekromantix, it shouds like crap for a stand up, probably because it looks like this:
Although, yu probably wouldn’t notice the cruddy quality of the bass, unlees you’re someone like me, who plays bass, and is really into good sounding instruments. He is a pretty good bassist though.
Check out Tiger Army, they have a great stand-up bass player. The old bassist from rancid I beleive. The rest are old mebers of AFI, along with Davie havoc on a few songs.
Oh, almost forgot, checkout Apocalyptica, it’s 3 guys who play death metal ON CELLOS. While they are usually metallica songs they play, the distortion on the cellos make it soun really death metally, and is really fun and enjoyable to listen to.

I went to a Megadeth concert a few years ago. I had to sit patiently through this aweful band that played before them. I had never heard of them… The Misfits. I thought, “man, these guys are never going to make it.” Then later I found out they were, like, legendary. My bad. And a sincere apology to Misfits fans everywhere… they are just not my cup of tea. But I thought I would share my (funny?) encounter with them.
no prob,most of their live shows were crap…its true. they were one of the most deppressing bands to see after listening to studio takes…they just got to drunk and didnt care which is fine but when the music sounds like shit because of it, its just a waste.
the Al’s Bar record is a good live example of how bad they could sound.
I personally HATE IT when bands sound like crap live. Modest Mouse is a great example, a recent concert I went to of theirs sucked fatty nut. Although, I half expected it, most of their music is soo random, it would seem impossible to constantly emulate their “studio” sound.
However, Motley Crue is comin to town. Im willing to spend 180bucks for nosebleeds. But then again, I have a friend with Backstage passes, he just needs 50 bucks…

They might be aging, but like a fine wine(or in this case) with age comes… awwww whatever.
It’s their final* tour, meaning I NEED to go see these foo’s. ZGirls Girls Girls is one of my favorite mp3’s!!!
- They could however, pull an “Eagles” on us, and come up with a “Hell Froze Over” kinda deal, and do another tour, like many of the greats do when they run out of money, or are bored.

yea he is. Anyway, There are a lot better psycobilly bands out there than Nekromantix. The bass in the Neks isn’t all too boomy and slapity if you know what I mean. I hate AFI, but Tiger army and HorrorPops are my favs. The bad thing is that the HP’s new album a few crap filler songs…
