Yet ANOTHER Ultimate Unicycle

Here is my idea for yet another ultimate unicycle:
We start with a normal ultimate wheel. On top of the ultimate wheel (and completely seperate from it) is a special frame that “rests” on top of the UW with two rollers. These rollers are the only contact the frame has with the wheel.
There are [bad] sketches of it on the link below. The sketches are in the “Ultimate Unicycle” folder. http://briefcase.yahoo.com/jfatsmokes

P.S. The pic of the checkered cab uni and the checkered cab motorcycle is in the “Unicycle Pics” folder.

The taxi was cool. You must have get some interesting variations on the typical Uni comments (“TAXI! Hey, over here!”).

If I have time when I get home, I’ll post a similar picture of a “frame” that mounts to the rim via rollers- inspired by the Chinese Circus pics that were posted here some time back.

This seems to be the direction in which David Stone’s UU is moving as well
(it’s “moving”, not yet there). As I explained in another post, the idea
is not completely new in that it resembles a recent Chinese contraption.
In it, the wheel has no spokes, hub or pedals, there are pedals in the top
part and they somehow drive the wheel. John Foss, talking about David’s
UU, rightfully pointed out that you probably need more rollers to “clamp”
the wheel and prevent the top part from falling over (or it would be
“completely separate” as you mention).

That Chinese uni was quite somethin’, wasn’t it!?

Take a look at the UW at Unicycle.com David. http://www.unicycle.com/shop-
ping/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=1&subcat=11&cat=Courtesy+of+The+Unicycle±
Factory&L2=Ultimate+Wheel&L3=Courtesy+of+The+Unicycle+Factory

You’ll see that it only has one cross-member that is apparently still
quite strong.

I was thinking also that what would be REALLY cool would be to be able to
snap the seat frame on and off quickly at will.

Ok, maybe I am wrong, but will this contraption be more or less straying from the original idea of a planar uni? It is a cool idea, but would it eliminate the wobble like David Stone’s goal is? You know, I’m probably wrong.

My goal isn’t to entirely eliminate the wobble but to eliminate it enough
that it would be a lot easier than a UW.

I am glad this thread has received lots of attention – I hope it amounts
to a cool uni one day.
