Yay New Unicycle!!

Well I’ve just come back from trying out my new unicycle, just thought I’d share that with you guys.

I’m not a unicycle freak or anything, and emabarrassingly I’ve had my old training unicycle Sparky for… …some years now and not learnt any tricks.

Then a couple of months ago I went to watch some trials uni stuff in London and Mike Penton let me try his Muni.

Wow.
The difference in stability was awesome and I managed to properly bunny-hop for the first time, let alone idle just a bit longer than .2 of a second (with help from AJ!).

So I did it. I went ahead and bought a 24" nimbus muni. Nothing special, since as I said I can’t claim to be totally dedicated to unicycling.

Okay, so the seat post is a tincy bit too long (curse my short stature!!) and the cranks are longer than I’m used to (idling is so much harder…) but I managed to get my practice in for my Sport Relief mile (you can sponser me here, and matt_t is doing it too, but I can’t find his page…)

Kids were asking me questions and some tried it out and it was all great.
It’s the best fun I’ve had on my own for a long time

And would you believe it? no one asked where the other wheel was!

May everybody who reads this share my glee

Congrats, you can cut the seat post to meet your needs, just smooth out the edges with a file after you do the cut, to keep everything smooth and unscratched.

Now you gotta go and and find some nice trails to ride, and get the Muni nice and dirty, or somewhat dirty, either way.

new unicycles are always fun!

Yeah…Thats my favourite part about unicycling…getting new ones:P

Some people have one leg shorter than the other; I have a rare genetic condition where both my legs are shorter than the other, which can often cause symptoms similar to this. I’d check again just to make sure.

Congratulations on extending your unicycle fleet. Time to start pondering what the next one will be now…

Getting new stuff rocks. Does anyone notice how when you get new (pedals, cranks, uni, shoes, etc…) you are magically better, and quickly learn a few new tricks for awhile.

That way madness lies.

Congratulations! You got the same Uni as I have!

I’ve had mine a few months now. I was surprised how quickly I got used to the bigger wheel. Going back to the 20" this week was odd though.

Keep an eye on your rim if it’s the one with a groove on either side. Mine split and I just got it back from the b*ke shop today.

I cut my seatpost down a little although I could ride it without because there wasn’t much clearance between the bottom of the post and the tire. Everyone says you should use a pipe cutter but I think they mean a better one than I had - it marked a nice line around the post but then I had to resort to the hacksaw.

You’ll have a great time on it, and you’ll still get the comments. It was nice when one of the local kids noticed I was on a different unicycle though. He even asked if I would be selling the other one!

Yeah I’m definitely going to cut my seat post down, and I’ll probably use a hacksaw.

I think my new muni’s name is (drum roll…)

‘Chuckles’

I’ll see if it sticks.
Unfortunately it looks like Sparky is going to be sold. Luckily it will be to a friend who will hopefully put the required effort into learning!

I laughed out loud. Very funny.

I have this condition too and my case is so severe that I had to have a special coker frame made so that I could ride a 36" wheel. (It causes problems buying jeans too)
