x-games

We should totally make an effort to get unicycling into the x-games.

Right now the only two types of unicycling that could be considered in the
x-games would be downhill MUni and a sort of trials/street freestyle mix sport.

The downhill MUni would probably be similar to dual-slalom or if anybody has
seen border-x (except not in the snow). The course would be a really fast
downhill with tight turns, jumps, and dropoffs. It would probably be run in a
mass start. This way the unicycling presented would be fast, technical, and
involve really great crashes that would cut, scratch and possibly break
people, but not kill them. The only problem with this is that most summer
X-games are held in more urban type areas where a course would almost have to
be completely built up.

The other possibility I see would be similar to BMX street with a little trials
attitude thrown into it, but with a more toned down course. If a course was
set-up to work with unicycling (smaller, less angled ramps, and lower grinding
rails and boxes) and people learned how to do more airial moves, grind, and link
freestyle tricks into it than it would definitly be appealing to viewers and a
possibility in the x-games, in the future.

This year the x-games is holding their first film festival. I am going to
send in a copy of “Universe” an extreme trials, street, and mountain
unicycling film I am currently working on, so hopefully that will catch the
attention of someone.

Hey Dan, Definitely send em the video, great idea!

I also suggest sending(or at least showing) your video to local cable company’s
or TV stations. Last week, a local cable company interviewed three other Muniers
and me about the sport and they got some decent footage of us doing some MUNI
stuff. They showed it as a two minute segment the next time about ten times
throughout the day. We’ve had some comments from people who saw it and the next
day I was out riding, I ran into a couple of people who saw it and where
interested. Hopefully, I’ll see more people who saw it and get them riding too.

I think it can really help get some more exposure for muni and more riders when
more people see it.

The other thing I thought of would be to give a copy to some of the sports shops
that play sports videos in there stores. Most of em do here in calgary and I am
hoping that some of em will play the video of Muni I made once I contact them.

Just a thought to spread the word, I mean wheel.

Excellent! Not that anyone wants to plan for “good crash potential”, but we know
the market we’re trying to get into. I like the thought people are putting into
new things to do on unicycles.

This sounds like the winner to me. People will like to see unicycle tricks,
and unicycles being ridden on “impossible” stuff. But our present forms of
competition would not be appropriate for the X Games style. Keep up the
cool ideas!

Now there’s something that may fly. I wish you luck! I can’t wait to see this
video myself…
