WWE - Is it REAL or FAKE?

I’m sick of all those religion threads…

It’s fake. Well, the storyline at least. Some of the stuff they do is kind of impossible to fake. But apart from that, yeah, fake. They came out about it in the 90’s. They said it wasn’t meant to be a “real sporting competion” but rather just a primal form of entertainment.

How do you define ‘real’ and ‘fake’?

Get out, phlegm
:stuck_out_tongue:

WWE is most definitely fake

WWE?

I think its fake. Doesn’t mean it can’t be entertaining. I used to watch it a lot when I was younger. I stopped when they split up Raw and Smackdown, that was too much of a gimmick for me to take it seriously anymore.

It’s not really either - it’s theatric.

They’re a very niche sort of actor/actress in that type of wrestling circuit.

They’re all VERY athletic and certainly skilled at the moves that they do. They’re in great shape and most of them take their jobs seriously, but they’re probably as close to stunt men/women as they are wrestlers.

If you’re going to be “beat up” by some 350 lb guy, you’d better be able to trust that that guy won’t break you in two.

While I’m not into wrestling at all, I have a lot of respect for what they do as a profession even if I find the plot lines and stories insipid and useless.

I infer from later posts it’s some sort of wrestling, right?

Real or fake? Wrestling on TV has always been entertainment rather than sport. Some of those moves would kill or maim if they weren’t perfectly choreographed.

That’s not to say it is literally scripted move by move, or that the outcome is always predetermined. Given the financial value of each individual wrestler’s brand identity, who’d regularly agree to lose?

We used to have Saturday afternoon wrestling on TV over here. Much less glamorous, but good fun all the same. It was like a cross between a pantomime and a freak show.

I don’t remember if this was in WWE, but there was one guy that took a metal bat to a guys leg and broke his kneecap.

Most of it is fake, but injuries do occur in the shows, they are still very entertaining to watch.

The main thing i remember about wrestling is, when Owen Hart, i think that was his name, He was my favorite wrestler, and at the time, when i was pretty young, was one of my idols, but he was being lowered down into the ring by a rope\pulley type system, the rope broke, he fell to his death right into the middle of the ring. Good luck faking that one…

WWE?

Wrestling? I dunno. Never watch it…

I agree with bmemike, niche theatre at it’s best. You have to respect them for their popularity. Sure, the plot lines are melodramatic, but they act as a vent for all those violent people out there who, without the stimuli, would probably go and hurt someone for real.

They’re kind of like a soap opera but slightly more violent, with less death (but about as much incest).

Whoa whoa whoa… Owen Hart fell to his death??
I never purposely watched it (I twisted my ankle badly when I was young and had nothing else to watch on tv), but when it was still the WWF I remember him… wasn’t he called the Heartbreak Kid or something? And didn’t he have a brother? He died?!? Man.

Yeah he had a brother, i forgot his name, i didnt like him as much though, but this wasy probably aobut 7 or 8 years ago, but now my childhood hero is gone and will be forever missed.

What ??? … no poll ? :stuck_out_tongue:

it’s definitely fake, they have to change the camera angle every single time they “hit” someone.

nah chech out Howstuffworks.com on pro wrestling
