This is the usenet group rec.sport.unicycling. I realize now that most
of regulars get to it via a unicyclist.com forum, but it’s not
unicyclist.com.

>From an ancient rec.sport.unicycling FAQ:

“Newsgroup
There is a newsgroup, rec.sport.unicycling, for discussing all
aspects
of unicycling.”

So any unicycling topic should be on topic here.

except for the fact their is a “trading post” for people who are looking to buy or sell their unicycle goods

We really don’t need a forum police squad regulating the people who come in from usenet. Anything unicycling related is on topic for RSU.

But it’s much more convenient if it’s in the trading forum.

There are also some other brands of 8 spline cranks that will fit the DM and old KH hub. Bulletproof made a crank that would fit but it’s 170 or 175mm. There was another brand as well that I can’t recall. It was available in 140mm.

The trading forum is also not on usenet like RSU is.

Got me there.

Yeah, didn’t see that one coming… :stuck_out_tongue:

John, thanks for mentioning about alternative cranks.

On a different matter that came up in the parallel thread of responses to my
original post - would appreciate help in understanding this forum (RSU), the
only one related to unicycles that I’ve found on Usenet. How does
Unicyclist.com fit into the picture in this regard - is it a Web site with
its own set of local forums that can only be only accessed there? If so, is
it the central one, and are there others as well?

Thanks for any further info!

Yes. Unicyclist.com is a web site that hosts several unicycling related forums. They’re web forums, not newsgroups. The main forum at Unicyclist.com is linked to the rec.sport.unicycling usenet group. Posts in that forum get sent to R.S.U. on usenet and R.S.U. posts on usenet get sent to the web forum. They’re tied together.

The intent is to augment and not replace the R.S.U. newsgroup. R.S.U. on usenet was here first. The web forum just makes it more accessible to those not familiar with usenet.

So you can check out the other forums at <http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/> and still use usenet to read and reply to R.S.U. posts. And there does happen to be a separate trading post forum for sales and trades, but it’s not on usenet. But RSU is still fair game for those posts. The downside is that the post will get lost after a day or so in RSU due to the traffic. If posted in the trading post it will stay visible longer.

Thanks again, John, and happy holidays!

Back on the topic of DM cranks, I have a pair, but they’re attached to the rest of my DM. Anyone interested in the whole thing? I have a few other MUnis at this point, and that one doesn’t get out much…

how much?
