Writing a book, need your help

As a somewhat dorky guy, I’ve been working to re-vamp an absolutely abysmal fantasy “novel” I co-authored in 7th grade. I feel like the story line is decent for a fantasy novel, and if I can make the characters real and develop them well, I may have a good book on my hands.

Part of this process is replacing un-inspired names like “Sword of Death” with more creative and meaningful names.

There are three basic “mythical” weapons that I need names for, and so far I’ve been drawing mostly blanks for their names.

a) a sword that can kill with a single touch.
b) A bow that causes arrows to burst into flames after being fired.
c) A shield that protects the wielder from all magical affects of the aforementioned weapons.

For the sword, the best I’ve come up with on my own is SoulCleaver, but I discovered that’s taken by a WoW item :frowning:

For the Bow I can’t think of anything except FlameShot (terrible I know)

For the Shield I have nothing at all, because my head keeps drifting to the name given a shield in the Elder Scrolls series.

All together I was thinking the “set” would be called something like “Arms of Fate” or “Destiny’s Arms” or even the “Sisters of Fate” since there are three of them, and part of the novel’s plot is that possessing them can guarantee the success of military exploits.

Any ideas? Constructive criticism?

the deathly hallows?

Is my book sounding similar to that? I’ve never read the Harry Potter books (I know, shame on me) so I don’t know what that one is about.

sorry, that wasn’t very helpfull.
is there a war happening at present?
or are have the items been seperated after some horrid affair in which they where involved and now, due to the impending war, are once again saught after?
can anyone wield them?

The idea of three mystical objects that, once combined, make an all powerful force.

The protagonists escaped from the main evil guy, and discovered that these weapons, previously thought to be mere stories, might actually exist. They decide it’s their best chance to win if they can find them and activate them, because, even if they weren’t magical, the power they represent would be an encouragement to an otherwise disparaged “good side”.

I haven’t actually decided if the shield will be included or not, but having a sweet sounding name for it would be good even so.

ah, i understand. Just set your self a letter to start the name with, then play around with different sounds. it will come eventually. it will just sound right.

and you will feel better, having come up with them yourself.

I would just give them random names that are merely grammatically possible jumbles of letters, but I want them to be on some level symbolic or descriptive of what they do.

I’m thinking about perhaps naming each after one of the Fates from mythology, which, the sword would obviously be Atropos (the cutter of the threads of life), but I’m not sure how the shield or bow would be named (one sister is Clotho the spinner of the threads, the third is Lachesis, who decides how long each person’s thread is).

a) Chuck

b) Incineraptor

c)The Shield of Sheath

That’s going to make picking it up tricky.

“The Hordes of Qwerty are at the gates! Come men! Take arms and gllrk…!”
“What happened to Bob?”
“He messed up holding that stupid sword.”
“Oh man!”
“Yeah, he’s our fifth hero this month.”
“Bogus.”

(fade to black)

Mmmm, yes, there is that.

a) Mydeath (as in, the Mydeath touch)
b) Flambo
c) Brook Shield

haha

Actually, I’d consider names that don’t try to define the object.

To someone who never heard of it, it would just be a random guess that Excalibur was a sword. Even still, most people know of it.

Maybe make up something that’s unique and sounds good, and just run with it.

Gasparto. For the sword.

Mingarhinlo. For that other thingy.

You can call the shield The Heart of Denial. You know 'cause it like you know stuff and shit and so on.

And you need a special crem to wield the sword. Cream sput out by a drunk dragon every 123 Neptune years.

Edit: when I say crem I mean cream. Obviously.

Don’t give away the plot twist!

for once everyone else was being silly and i, helpful…
maybe i am growing up.
