Wrist protection and more.

Ok, I did use search and looked at a few options and narrowed it down to 3 types of wrist/palm protection, I’m unsre what to get… Either,

the 661 wrist wraps.

KH Pulse Gloves

or…

Harbinger something or other (opinions on these would be nice)

I might also get the Harbinger 631E Elbow Pads from UDC as the 661 2x4 Elbow and Forearm Armor seems a bit much since I’m not going to be doing MUni.

I’m also getting the KH leg protection 661 Dirt Lid Helmt.

i dont know u and this is way offtopic but i went to your myspace and was looking at your music interests and saw that you have “Normal Jean” written down as a band and i just wanted to let you know that its “Norma Jean”

also if it were me id get the 661’s

Thanks, there are a couple typing errors on my myspace. I’m more than aware it’s “Norma Jean”. But thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Not sure whihc 661s you mean but if it’s these steer clear, a friend tried them, wrecked them in a few days and they didnt stop his hands getting cut open. Personally I use TSG professional wraps but form your list the KHs would be my preference.

The difference you’re looking at is wraps vs. splints.

The KH and 661 simply wrap around your wrist with a stiff material to prevent hyperflexion… your hand still experiences some of the forces of impact.

The Harbinger gloves include a splint that holds the wrist in place, absorbing most of the forces of the impact. The KH glove, instead, places extra padding on the palm. I find this to be adequate for most situations… riding on the street or offroad.

For the protection you gain with the Harbinger, you give up flexibility and grip. Personally, I find it difficult to get a good grip on the KH handle with Harbingers… which is why I don’t use such gloves.

Of course, if you’ve any pre-existing hand, wrist or forearm injury, you’ll want the extra protection of the Harbingers.

One last thing… fingertip protection. “Cutoff” gloves leave your fingers exposed to whatever they may impact. I’ve seen riders picking gravel out of their fingers before… not cool. Get full fingered gloves!

My 2 cents.

Have you ever heard of a "RSU is not a chat room.

I am sorry o great and wise ruler of the forums

i really am sorry tho even if my sarcasim makes it appear that i am not:o

+1 to Maestro about which wrist protection to get. The KH gloves won’t protect you from a hard fall on your wrist, so if you’re worried about that (or have a prior injury) get something like the harbingers. I took (yet another) hard muni fall a little over a week ago, messed up my knee pretty good (took a week for the abrasions to heal enough for me to even notice the HUGE bone bruise/bump just below the kneecap–this while wearing KH leg armor), and I’m sure would have broken my wrist (again) had I not been wearing very tough wrist guards. Mine are from Pro Design, a skate company whose goods are durable and comfortable.

Wow I’ve never seen a sextuple post!

I use Harbinger Weight Training Gloves for MUni, and a thinner Wal-Mart brand glove for trials. I agree about the difficulty in gripipng the handle…there is a lot of padding in the palm, but it isn’t a big deal. I think the wrist support is perfect; it isn’t to stiff, and it isn’t too thin.

Thanks all!

I have zero interest in muni at the moment so I ordered the pulse gloves as I might be doing trials/street, but I eventually want to do distance riding. I’m still learning so theses sound perfect…

Wrist Protection

So far the KH red gloves have been the best that I have had. I personally don’t like riding with gloves. I like to feel the handle. I think that Elbow forearm protectors are much more important and I am one of the few people that always ride with them. I always rode without gloves until I developed a HUGE calouse on my pinky that has actually cuved the finger! My Brother is a doctor and he is against wrist and ankle supports if you are healthy. His reasoning is that you want your joint to experince the shocks and bangs of the sport. It is the only way to strengthen the muscles of that joint area. When I fall I make a point of trying to fall on the elbow and forearm where I have guards. Gloves just are not going to save your fingers from breaking. They will save them from getting scratched up but that is a minor injury.

Aiming to land on your elbow sounds like an invitation for a dislocated or separated shoulder, I would take absorbing shock with my arm and picking gravel out of my hand over putting that kind of force through my elbow any day.

I always wear my KH Pulse gloves when riding and find them quite comfortable. I tried wearing the Harbinger gloves with the plastic splint and found it didn’t really affect grabbing the seat handle but made holding a T7 bar very awkward.

I am also a fan of full fingered gloves if you think that you will crash. Fingerless is definitely nicer to use some times though.

Falling and Guards

I probably did not do a very good job of explaining myself in the previous post.
I don’t catch myself with my elbows when falling. It is much more of a forearm/hand and some elbow catch. Keep in mind that I have padded forearm/elbow guards with a hard plastic shell. They are pretty good at absorbing blows. Also the whole key to falling is not to fall head on but to “deflect.” Gloves as I said before will not save you from breaking fingers if you ball badly. They will save your plams for getting scratched up. Now falling on rocky terrain is never fun but that is where the falls usually are!

The KH Grey Pulse gloves do have a splint. It’s plastic, and in the back of the glove, not in the hand part. It actually supports the wrist fairly nicely, and doesn’t interfere with grabbing the seat like the Pro gloves.

I don’t like you. Or anyone who has a little bitch about little things like that. It really gets my goat up and my gander. Three words, GET OVER IT!

It’s funny that I’ve seen this thread a few times and didn’t look because it didn’t look interesting, I didn’t even think about the fact the I have a sprained wrist or something like that.
