yes, you guessed it, world jump day is nearly upon us, only 3 weeks and 21 hours to go.
all you lucky folk in the western hemisphere get to jump, while us over here have to stand very still and see if we feel a big thud. i HIGHLY doubt that world jump day will actually work, but if it does, cool.
to put that number in perspective, the mass of an insect compared to that of a car is about 1.0 × 10^-6. that’s 100 million times greater! do you feel a jolt in your car when a bug hits the windshield? it’s going a bit faster than the average jumper, as well…
it’d be better if it were “world jump off a bridge day”… that way we’d be rid of the idiots who believe such a thing would have any effect…
Not to mention setting it up where everyone’s jump is actually coordinated to happen at the same time. Getting everyone within a second would be difficult. Getting everyone to hit at the same instant will be extra-difficult. Only the real geeks will probably hit it on time.
In other words, the effect will be more like a whole bunch of tiny bug parts hitting the windshield of your cruise ship within a few seconds of each other.
when the people jump up they are pushing down on the earth to propel themselves away from it, which moves the earth a bit the other direction, but the whole time they are in the air the earth is pulling them back down again so its applying pressure to earth back in the direction it came from, then when the people hit the earth again it evens out the pressures.
so i cant see it working, although it is a nifty idea
