Hey guys I am the Director of a wilderness summer camp for children 9-17 and we are currently looking for staff that can fill a few positions. I know that these forums are not meant for advertisements but wouldn’t it be cool to have a unicyclist as your boss while you got payed to go on awesome trips in the bush?
We have positions starting in May and also in July. Most staff stay on the job until mid August.
I won’t lie to you, the pay isn’t spectacular but when you factor in the fact that you have zero expenses (meals, lodging, equipment is all provided free of cost) then it is not so bad. Last year I got payed over $1000 to go hiking and canoeing for a month, how awesome is that!
Anyway if you are interested in working for me this summer you can send me a PM or an e-mail to saskatchewanian@unicyclist.com
Some positions that we are looking to get filled are Purchaser, Supply, Waterfront Director/Head Lifeguard, Buss Driver/maintenance, Head Cook, Canoe instructor, and general staff (resource personnel and councilors)
Adventure tourism training/experience or just general bush experience is an asset but not required.
sounds awesome but I’m working at a camp down here already this summer it will be my fourth year back and last year I promised over 1500 kids I’dbe back this year it’s too bad your camp is the same time as mine or I’d apply.
I am also thinking of using the grounds to host a unicycle weekend this spring, Perhaps I am biting off more than I can chew but I be able to organize that between a couple school groups.
Danni, I won’t lie, the wages aren’t stellar but they have been getting better over the years. Depending on qualifications you would be making between $950-$1040 a month if working as a camp counselor. If you accept a position with a little more responsibility the wage goes up accordingly. It might not be much but once you get there you have zero expenses.
I have always figured that working at a summer camp is not so much about the money but more about the experience. People pay thousands of dollars to go on trips simmilar to the ones that we are payed to do.
Pat: I am not moving out east right after school anymore but I am still taking a week off for RTL, still not certain who will be taking over when I am gone.
I might move out to one of the coasts in the fall or I might stay put and take some GIS courses for a dual diploma in Forestry and GIS. September is still a long way away.
