Woodhill forest, more extreme unicycling

On Wednesday nights the local mountain bike park stays open late so it was off to the fantastic Woodhill forest to try some more extreme north shore style riding.

Woodhill has many mountain bike trails including lots of lovely stunts ranging from the simple X rated to the extreme XXXXX rated stunts. This is a blatant plug to persuade all you Muni enthusiasts to visit us in NZ

See the below link for what kind of stuff we were trying to ride:
http://www.woodhillonline.com/stunts.html

One X equates to small 1ft drops with little danger. Two Xs means bigger drops. At three Xs things start to get technical with 3 foot drops, see saws, ladder bridges, rails etc. Five Xs is rated “My wife just left me” and these are generally the insane sorts of stunts you see Kris riding on videos.

I can now ride just about every XXX stunt we come across which blows me away because I wouldn’t have even considered riding some of them a month back.

This means we are now “forced” into attempting four and five X stunts. Tony flabergasted me on the last ride by just about pulling off a five X ( http://www.woodhillonline.com/highndry.html ). He bailed riding out of the landing.

Seems like a worthy goal is to ride all the four Xs and master some of the fives. Should keep me busy for a couple of years,

Anyways I’m off to play with my new Coker wheel.

Once again, sweet riding down in New Zealand. Thanx for the pics!

Don’t ever take Woodhil forest for granted! I’ve love to go riding there. Do you think that all those northshore ramps, etc. are likely to be there for much longer? What if there’s a bushfire? Thanks for the photos, I wish I was there.

The ramps and stunts are likely to be around for quite a while. In
fact new trails and stunts are being built all the time. The forest is
commercially
owned by Carter Holt but the area in which the MTB trails are is
managed by cyclists. See http://www.bikepark.co.nz .

The risk of bushfire in Auckland, New Zealand is not very high. The
forest is closed in mid-summer if it hasn’t rained in the previous two
weeks and the fire danger is too high. Last summer the forest was
twice within one day of being closed but luckily it rained!

If you ever come visit New Zealand Peter Bier and I will gladly show
you around Woodhill.

Peace, out
