it’s always been a childhood dream of mine to own a unicycle and after a whole week of waiting it finally arrived! i beleive the model is a torquer 20" uni. i’ve been trying to learn how for a few hours now and i think i’m slowly getting the hang of it… even though i can’t even ride forward without support yet.
WooHoo!!!
Welcome to the forums and good luck learning. Random advice: Keep your weight on the seat and have a great time.
Congrats, you made a good decision. If you need any help learning to ride, the journal in my signature has helped a lot of people in the past, so feel free to check it out! Good luck, and have fun!
Well done, welcome to the sport and the forum!
If you ever need any help… here’s the place to ask. We’re nice like that
Have fun unicycling.
just a quick question, should i be riding it with the seat post at waist height?
It’s a matter of personal opinion, but for me at least, put the seat up so when you sit on it you can touch the floor with your toes, like on a bike.
Once you’ve got the hang of riding it becomes natural and you can adjust the seat to what ever you want.
sam is this you?
k well i’ve finally managed to ride it to the end of my driveway. i actually preffered to have the seat up high so that i’m putting my wheight on it as soon as i get up. i’ve ogt it to the point where my legs only have a slight bend when they’re all the way down on the bottom turn. i find it’s given me balance, a good firm seat, and chaffed my legs alot less lol. though i did have to order in a new seat post to accomadate my height, and it didn’t even fit onto the origional seat bolts, so i had to hack off both tops and weld my old one to the new post… so yeah lol
While learning you should have the seat up high. It is easier to ride and control that way. Also easier on the legs.
One rule of thumb is to set the seat height so that when your heels are on the pedals your legs are as straight as they can be without your hips rocking as you pedals. Put your heels on the pedals, hold on to a wall, and pedal a few revolutions. If your hips rock the seat is too high.
Then in normal riding you ride with the balls of your feet centered over the pedals. Your legs will have a slight bend. All is good. You can lower the seat a few millimeters from that height if you want it a little lower.
