Wonderful Oregon Skiing

Boooooya, I had a great time. I just got back from a trip where we spent 4 days in the Seventh Mountain Condos in Bend, Oregon, where the wonderful Mount Bachelor is only 15 miles away. The first day, we arrived in Bend around 6:45, and basically unpacked and slept. Sunday, we got up first thing and headed to the mountain, skis in hand…err…car. When we arrived, after getting our boots and skis on, we all headed to the “Bunny Hill” lift. My brother went between my Dad’s legs while I struggled to “snow plow” myself down the hill. Later that day, I hit the nitch of “w00t, I got it! This is 133t!” So my mom and bro left because it was snowing pretty hard, and my dad and I did some pretty steep runs up really high in the mountain. They were all green, but really fast and fun. We headed out that night at 4:30. The next day was all rain, and nothing but it. It was mostly the same, although today my dad took my bro and my mom and I skied. The only rather exciting part was when I went by myself on the tallest lift - the Pine Marten. The top of the lift is incredibly windy with winds over 60 MPH. They close it at 45 MPH, so it must have been under that when I went up, but it was still incredibly windy. Now here’s the scary part - at the very top of the lift (the by far windiest part), the “too good for protection” snowboarder next to me took the support bar off when we were still a few hundred metres from the end and the winds were harder than ever, at 50 or 60 feet off the ground. Wow, I was hanging on to that hand rest so hard I almost broke it ;), but I did get to the end safely. On day three, our last day of skiing, I made a lot of progress, and the weather was perfect with no precipitation at all. This day I did a blue run, and got down fine except for bailing in some deep-snow moguls. It was a great trip, and I looked for Jagur at the Denny’s in Salem, but there was no sign of him…

What, no action shots??

Sounds like a fun time, and I bet your hooked now.

Of course. No action shots because numbre uno, it was too wet the first two days. And numbre dos, I didn’t want to fall on and ruin my brand new camera! :astonished:

I spent most of the 86/87 season and Christmas Break 87 as a weekend instructor at Mt. B.

I’ve got the Bruce Jackson “Summit” print framed in my living room and his “Pine Marten” print framed in my office. Fun mountain, been too long since I’ve been back.

Come on up skiing with us sometime. If you’ll teach me to wheel walk I’ll teach you moguls.

man i really want to ski
