I had great time reading your preliminary list o fskill levels 9-15. I know
it’s veryvery early but i feel like i should comment on the placement of
some things.
Problem #1: Too many coasting skills. Sure, coasting standing up is hard
but there are tons of other hard tricks out there that could be substuited.
People seem to have this false idea that coasting is the ultimate godlike
status unicycle trick (i'll say trick if i want to, don't correct me.)
Coasting is a hard trick but since i learned that i've discovered so many
areas and directions to follow which are at least as hard as if not more
dificult than coasting. I think other possible godlikestatus skills which
could be added would be side ride backward or seat dragging backward. I
think that side ride in reverse is much harder than coasting backward.
Anyway, just too much coasting.
Problem #2: This is a minor one; What's twising 5 times doing in level 11?
I think level 4 or 5 is more appropriate for this TRICK.
Problem #3: Sometimes TRICKS are redundant. To have side ride in a circle
in a latter level than side ride is wong, much like in the standard TRICK
competition rulebook side ride is given less points that side ride in a
circle. Most anyone who can side ride would agree that side riding in a
circle is much more natural and much easier than side riding in a straight
line, the same is true with that seat on side one footed TRICK you talk
about. Most of those side TRICKS are just easier to do in a circle than a
line due to the off center balance.
Problem #4: Levels 11-15 really ought not be implimented until someone
passes 10. It would be really great to be able to say that they were a
level 10 out of 10, the best you could be ranked. If you were to pass level
10 only to face levels 11-15 it would be kind of a disappointment. I guess
though that even if there were a motion now to pass the new levels it
wouldn't matter because i think someone will pass 10 before everything was
in place anyway.
The good stuff: Despite the similarity of the TRICKS i really like to see a
new ranking of skills that are too new to be formally placed. It finally
will (possibly??) push change to a system which is just too outdated. If
you've gone to a NUM (see? I called it NUM and not NUC! HA!) recently
you've seen that many of the freestyle routines have many many TRICKS that
aren't included in the standard TRICK handbook. That handbook is just so
old as far as TRICKS contained, there are probably double or triple that #
or TRICKS out there and that number grows by the day yet none of those
TRICKS are included in the handbook. John Foss, aren't you the Rulebook
guy? Can anything be done about those TRICKS???
Oh well, enough of my #$%! for today, i hope i didn't offend anyone.
HAHAHA!
Karl!
