Winter Wonder LAN Party

Ben just returned from Geeksville and had a great time. He loaded up his computer, a homebuilt 3.4 G machine with lots of good stuff, and attended a LAN party at our local community college. 72 hours of gaming, tourneys, and well over $1000 in prizes like a brand new Nvidia 7800GT GFX card, a clear case XBox 360 and other stuff. Lots of freebies too. We dropped him off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and I just picked him up at 4:30 a.m. this morning. The college semester is done but Ben has a soccer game this evening and finals this coming week so he couldn’t stay the entire time.

Ben says he learned a great deal and came home with neat downloads on his computer, a door prize of some sort of LCD lights that respond to sounds or other computer signals, and a bunch of free trinkets. He also bought a 200 G STS hard drive. The party had several sponsors with reps attending including Bawls, Red Bull, Thermaltake, NTEC, and nVidia. The Red Bull guys were handing out cans left and right through the event. Ben had his first real taste of Red Bull and was telling me that he thinks he drank a second can too close to the first can because he could tell he was getting somewhat jittery. When I went in to see him, he pointed to the guy across from him that was drinking from a two-liter Mountain Dew bottle. Ben says it was filled with Red Bull.

I guess the computer club at the college has these from time to time. Ben is real excited about attending the next one. I think I’ll try to get some more sleep now…

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…

I have yet to attend one of these events.
Although, my freinds and I have enought computers around to play 3 or 4 player LAN.
Too bad he didnt win the 7800 GTX :(( … that would have been nice

Anyway, I just began ‘re-building’ my current box.
Some 2 x 1gb XMS Dual Channel PC3200c2, and a Antec 550 TPII arrived Friday.
Quake 4 no longer stutters walking into new a room now :D.

Been pricing A64 X2’s and the DFI ‘Expert’ motherboard.
Also, been thinking about crossing over to the ‘dark side’ (Intel).

Anyway, I have the ‘foundation’ set for Dual Core and SLI.
