Winter is comming... what to do

hey i know some of you ride in the winter. but i was wondering if you guys where shin pads when you ride in the snow. i’ve done winter riding before but i never wore shin pads then. how do you propose i where them while still staying warm?

u either buy x-large or you make a trials line in ur basement

I live in the southern part of Arizona.

Snow? What’s that?

I don’t understand the question. It’s winter? Ride. It’s cold? Ride. Shinpads don’t fit over winter clothes? Wear them under. Or buy bigger ones. You definitely don’t want to stop using pinned pedals, especially if it’s going to snow…

The stretchy lycra style long cycling tights will keep your legs warm and they fit easily under leg armour. The tights come in different weights. The thicker heavier weights are warmer. You can get padded or non-padded tights. I go for the non-padded and wear them over my regular cycling shorts.

If it’s seriously cold you can get more serious Winter cycling pants/tights. Cycling clothing is usually tight fitting so you’ll be able to wear it under your leg armour.

Shop around cause cycling clothes can be expensive. There’s discount shops like Performance Bike that have lower cost house brands. Col d’Lizard also has good stuff and good prices, especially when they go on sale at the end of the Winter season.

I dont really wear shingaurds in the winter at all, unless I wear shorts.( Yes sometimes I do wear shorts in the snow)

Snow is a lot softer to fall in, and unless I do unispins or somthing like that were my feet leave the pedals, I usually dont need to worry about metal pedals. But wearing them over regular long pants isnt too bad.

I wear my normal 661’s over my snowpants, or if it’s not too cold out (say, above 0F) I’ll wear shorts with the 661’s. The only problem I’ve had with cold was last year once on a really cold day… my toes froze up a bit because I wasn’t moving them in my shoes  After that, as long as I at least kept wiggling them sometimes whilst riding, they were fine.

Re: Winter is comming… what to do

I pull the trouser legs up to above the knee, then don the 661 4x4’s.
It’s best seen in the top picture on

if you’re cheap like me, putting your current guards under your snowpants works fine. my first uni winter is coming, and i can’t wait to get on the snow chain and/or studded tire.

i have some heavy duty HOCKY SHINGUARDS!!! they are kinda restricting but they keep you from bangin up your knees and shins so i guess they work…

Redoing that as a link:

I’m worrying about my tyres the most (yes, i have many unicycles  ), have heard of the maxxis Creepy Crawler cracking when ridden in cold conditions… Do they?
Are all the sticky tyres the same? Will my Kenda Kinetics on my onza muni crack?

We’ll have -25C (-13F) many days this winter, and some days reacing down to -30C (-22F), and colder than -35C many at night around NYE…

Will this be a problem?

i checked out that ‘gallery’ and i scrolled down it. but i hit the seventh picture and it was like BANG!!! right in my face! your head just popped out of nowhere, all zoomed in on the camera
(p.s. im not insulting you)

Snow?

I’m happy if it gets down to 50°F. It’s just a comfortable temperature for sports.

I dont think the creepy crawlers crack…I got my new KH trials uni for xmas last winter and rode it a lot in the freezing cold and I didnt hear any cracking. I never rode it in much snow though, just in freezing weather.

That series of pics was made by an unknown-to-me landscape
photographer who just spotted me. I don’t know why he included that
close-up, probably with the purpose to scare you.

My duro leopard hasn’t cracked, and that was in -30F to -40F weather. I’m looking forward to winter… snow doesn’t hurt much when you fall… though ice sucks… Which is why the good Lord invented elbow pads and helmets

wut about pitting on a tire thats got dry rot all around it (its been sitting outdside on my bmx for a few years)will it pop?

were can u get them
