Windows boot error

I just finished putting together my new system. Got everything hooked
up, passed BIOS POST, and started the Windows boot sequence.

All I did wasa take my hard drive out of my old PC, and put it in the
new PC. I figured that Windows (2000 Pro) would be able to boot, and
just prompt me with all the “Found New Hardware” messages because it’s
in a new system.

But, it’s going through the “Starting Windows 2000” (black and white)
screen, then the Microsfot Windows 2000 logo screen (with the progress
bar at the bottom).

Just after that, I a get blue screen of death, with the following error:

*** STOP: 0x0000007B
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

Any ideas?

Re: Windows boot error

Nope you can’t do that, Windows keeps track of Motherboard and CPU and Hard drive information and you can’t just swap a boot drive into a new computer it will die just as it has for you. What you might try is set the BIOS to boot from the CD as the first boot device and do a reinstall of Windows onto your old drive. That should leave all your app’s still there and working but the installation process will find the new hardware correctly and set the registry so that you can boot form the new PC.

Warning I have never tried this and it is not recommended, your best option for a clean and fast running new system to back up your data and fdisk the old drive and do a complete fresh clean installation that will result in the fastest and most stable outcome for your new PC.
