win2000 Running sevices

Ok I’m running Windows 200 and tghere are no less then 15 or so programs
running in the background…most of which are not applications I’m running
but programs run by Winnt. My questio is are there any I can close without
any detrimental effects and prevent from loading at later boots and what
the heck do most of them do.

Processes running smss.exe csrss.exe winlogin services lsass svchost
spoolsv afssvc npssvc regsvc winmgmt mspmspsv alertsvc mapisp32 msimn
tbctray rundll32 (x 2) agentsvr

Those are miuns the Norton Anti virus ones I beleive and a few other whic
I know are open programs.

Most of those are required Windows NT processes/services. Leave
them as is.

I do not think you need Windows Log in Services unless you are using WINS
services other then that one I think the rest are required for a stable
net connection.
