I Wanna Sing that Rock and Roll. Gillian Welch (and David Rawlings):
I want to sing that rock and roll.
I want to 'lectrify my soul,
'Cause everybody been making a shout
So big and loud, been drowning me out.
I want to sing that rock and roll.
I want to reach that glory land.
I want to shake my savior’s hand,
And I want to sing that rock and roll.
I want to 'lectrify my soul,
'Cause everybody been making a shout
So big and loud, been drowning me out.
I want to sing that rock and roll.
I been a-traveling near and far,
But I want to lay down my old guitar,
And I want to sing that rock and roll.
I want to 'lectrify my soul,
'Cause everybody been making a shout
So big and loud, been drowning me out.
I want to sing that rock and roll.
I been a-traveling near and far,
But I want to lay down my old guitar,
And I want to sing that rock and roll.
I want to 'lectrify my soul,
'Cause everybody been making a shout
So big and loud, been drowning me out.
I want to sing that rock and roll.
I want to sing that rock and roll.
it might be dead, but it will never die.
Yes, the two examples you referenced are what I would consider loop rock. It has never been alive except for pop and a brief moment during the glam rock era.
The music literally is a loop. You can buy CDs full of generic rock riffs. Those riffs are looped and used as the background music in commercials, videos, radio, and other work. The examples you cited sound like they took three of the generic rock riffs and used one for the intro, one for the melody, and one for the chorus then tied them together with simple bridges. Put some lyrics over the top and call it a rock song. That kind of music has no soul. It has never been alive. That’s what pop does to music.
Rock itself is not dead. There are still bands that don’t follow the formula of dead music. Rock music is in need of innovation and inspiration, but it’s not dead.
Here’s an example of why a band should not create a song with a sound designed for pop radio play. In my opinion, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have just jumped the shark with the release of Dani California. The only reason for that song being on the album is to get radio play. Creating songs to specifically appeal to a mass market will get you milk toast.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are on the way out. They sold out for the mass market.
Just listening to Dani California is like listening to a valley girl talk about her trip to the mall. It’s vacuous. My brain implodes a little bit every time that song comes on the radio.
You’ll pay ten bucks to see me
On a fifteen foot high stage
Fatass bouncers kick the shit
Out of kids who try to dance
If my friends say
I’ve lost my guts
I’ll laugh and say
That’s rock and roll
But there’s just one problem
Is my cock big enough
Is my brain small enough
For you to make me a star
Give me a toot, I’ll sell you my soul
Pull my strings and I’ll go far
And when I’m rich
And meet Bob Hope
We’ll shoot some golf
And shoot some dope
So that’s why the song was lame?
u kno whos dead ? THE CROCODILE HUNTER… sry just thought id say that cauz im weird
Rock doesnt die, it never will, only the definition and style of rock will change.
People here will say that something really heavy is rock, when other will say only the stuff from the 80s is rock. But now, whos to say? Theres so many genres and cross-bread of music, what is rock to one, is death-heavy industrial-operatic-screamo…
To me, rock will never die.
Oh yeah, here, in spokane, we have Rock 94.5fm for our main rock station, but I hate it, what they play, I just dont like to listen to as much, cause all I hear is the same droning on voices, the same grumbly screaming, the same dropped tuning guitar playing with hardly in technical difficulty to the song, just a rhythm part that seems to repeat forever, the same drum beats with nothing new, and never being able to hear that a bass is in the band. No more guitar solos that leave you stunned.
To me, by todays standards of rock, there is very little musical talent in any of the songs I hear, nor do I get that same rock feeling I get with the stuff I listen to more.
Don’t get me wrong here though, I still like it, and its just the way rock is going, it changes directions like all music does, but with the direction its going now, it gets old way too fast.
I saw him 4 days ago. Looked pretty alive. He played right here in State College, home of the spikes!
