When sitting at my desk, i realized that a lot of posters are Guests. Now this isnt usually odd, but usually you would think that the Guest feature would be for people only posting a few times or just once. These people are constant posters. Is there a reason you cant register, like your computer wont let you? Or can you just not spend five minutes and REGISTER. Not that i have a huge problem with this, but there isnt a way to get a hold of guests.
Scott, I don’t think you understand how this group works.
If it says “Guest”, that doesn’t mean that they are posting from unicyclist.com but are too lazy to register.
When is says “Guest”, that means that they are not accessing the newsgroup from unicyclist.com. It means that they are posting from either the email list or the newsgroup, rec.sports.unicycling
Although if you learnt of this group through unicyclist.com, it would seem like “that’s all there is.” But it isn’t. What Gilby(the founder of unicyclist.com) did was make a way to post to rec.sports.unicycling from the web. He made it look like any other Internet forum out there. But it isn’t. It is a newsgroup first. Therefore, it is unreasonable for the people who access it via Unicyclist.com to demand that everybody stop doing it the way that they have been doing it ever since this group got started.
Remember, the Web is not the only part of the Internet, although it is much more popular than newsgroups.
Edit: And also, you posted this in Just Conversation, which is *not8 connected to the real newsgroup, which means that the un-registered users are not seeing this.
Some people prefer posting to rec.spport.unicycling using a usenet newsreader. Newsreaders have advantages over the web forum here at unicyclist.com. Newsreaders can better handle busy newsgroups with lots of volume, can better archive messages, make it easier to quickly read through lots of messages, can flag messages for later attention, and be more handy if you happen to follow other usenet groups. The web forum here at unicyclist.com is handy for me because I switch between several computers and the web forum handles that better than a newsreader. I first accessed the forum 5+ years ago using usenet, that is way before unicyclist.com existed.
The people who post as “guest” are either using a newsreader or email to read the newsgroup. The people who show up as “guest” at <http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/> (look down at the bottom of the page to see how many guests there are) are the ones who are lurking on the web forum and are tool lazy to register.
The Unicyclist.com forums are just a web based newsgroup client, so to speak. It was created to make it easier for people to find the newsgroup and access it. Not as a replacement for the email list or usenet.
