why don't they tell us this stuff?

i have always wondered why osama bib laden and the muslim terrorists picked 9-11 to bomb the towers in New York, but figured it was them trying to be a little ironic or something because it is the same as 911.

Today I was at my uncle's house, working, in the rain and I decided to dry off a little and take a break, and he always has some awesome rant that is completely true, so this time it happened to be about the "war on terror", or is it really just a "holy war"? to tell you the truth, it adds up to be the old "holy war" reignited.

a long time ago, during the muslim crusades, the muslims kept attacking the European countries over a 760 year(something close to that) period. It took all the christian countries a while to gather enough strength after a particularly long battle over in spain. When the battle finally ended it happened to be 1492 (does that year look familiar?) so they had plenty of money to send christopher columbus to america(hmmm another reason for muslims to hate america). but anyways, it just so happened that that war ended on 9-11-1492.

my question is this? WHY ISN'T THAT EVER ON THE NEWS, why criticise bush, and hate him when you could realize that his getting involved w/ this war had to happen. It was no option.

i remember “learning” about the crusades, my teacher spent 10 minuites on them and I didn’t learn a thing about them, but why don’t we learn that in school?
why not?
it doesn’t make sense.

I might believe that coming from the perpitrators, but I don’t from you. Part of their excuse is age-old hate, but another part is based on much more recent issues they are having. In this case, “they” is the subset of our enemies who believe they are in a holy war, or that any war can be holy.

I don’t think anybody sent Columbus to “America.” At the time there was no known America to aim at. Wasn’t his destination supposed to be India? Why don’t they teach that in school?

Yes, you are confused. September has an eleventh day every year. Had it been in 2001 there would have been a different president. And what about the 1993 WTC attack? In February? Same bad guys. Why didn’t they teach that in your school?

Why don’t they teach a decent amount of geography? I find that Americans not only don’t know where half of the 50 states are, most are incredibly ignorant of where things in the rest of the world are. There sure is a lot of stuff I didn’t get taught in my public school education…

My “theory” on the choice of 9/11/01 was:

  • If tickets were purchased in advance, Tuesdays are probably cheaper
  • If tickets were purchased day-of, it might have been for the beautiful, clear skies
To theorize further, make sure the date of the 1993 attack fits the theory. They tried to knock one of the towers down that day as well, possibly both.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Lol, that’s brilliant

Where is Iceland and the Nordics… you can’t forget Vikings!

Americans can XD

Moops.

What do you mean it had to happen?

i don’t know much about the 1993 attack… only that they ran a van?? into the building trying to take it down.

they had to pick the date before, they couldn’t plan that out like they did in 20 mins the day of.

I just said they “sent” columbus assuming anyone who half cared about this knows who and what christopher columbus is/did.

[RANT=skrobo]
they didn’t teach me that in school because our school system sucks BAD
i could learn everything (well almost…physics is the exception) that I have in a week at the most on my own if I had to. school is a joke and has no real point. I know people who were homeschooled who learned algebra 1 at age 8
i know people who are seniors in highschool and ask me for help w/ thier algebra WHATS UP W/ that
if an 8 year old can learn that, then why can’t a senior in highschool?
because its school to the senior, and school SUX to them
but to the 8 year old, they think that if they don’t learn it they will be dumb compared to their friends, they don’t know the extent of thier friend’s math, to their friends its only math[/RANT]
hehe
rant on school :stuck_out_tongue:

I feel that these would have been some of the last things on the minds of the attackers when choosing a date. They probably had the tickets weeks in advance (although they may have postponed in case of inclement weather). Money was certainly not an issue.

On February 26th, 1993, a car bomb (truck) estimated at around 1500lbs was detonated in one of the sublevels of Tower 1, killing 6 and injuring 1042. Sodium cyanide was supposedly in the bomb, but this was said to have burned up in the explosion. The idea was to undermine the foundation of the North Tower enough that it would fall onto the other tower causing damage to it and the other surrounding buildings.

A lot of things have happened on September 11th throughout history. In 1922 the British were given control of Palestine and started letting Jews move in. In 1941 ground was broken on the Pentagon (a target 60 years later). Pete Rose broke the hitting record in 1985 (Osama loves Pete Rose). In 1990 U.S. President George H. W. Bush delivered a speech in which he threatens the use of force to remove Iraqi soldiers from Kuwait, which Iraq had recently invaded. He mentions the term “New World Order” in this speech for the first time. I think they were probably planning it sometime in June, and needed to pick a date. Someone suggested 9-11 because it was the same as 911 (I also think I heard somewhere that the Madrid train bombings were 911 days later, but I don’t feel like doing the math).

What I don’t get is why they attacked at 8:30 in the morning when there were only 15,000 or so people inside. 50,000 people were employed there, and another 200,000 or so passed through in a given day. The potential for a lot more casualties existed, I wonder whether it was an oversight, luck or mercy (unlikely) that led to the early attack. Regardless, as bad of a day as it was for NYC and the USA it could have been worse if the attacks were at 2:00.

It was in Andalusia, Spain that the Christians forced the Jews and Muslims to either convert or leave, to make a totally Christian Europe.

The Jews who were forbidden to practice were known as “conversos” but many continued to be secretly Jewish. Without the rituals to support the belief, some became the first atheists in Europe (see Karen Armstrong’s The Battle for God).

When you say the Iraq invasion HAD to happen-- of course, you are still confusing 9-11 with the Iraq war, which had nothing to do with each other except in the confused mind of W.

Hussein kept Iraq free from the religion of Osama, but Bush has put the Muslim fundamentalists (Shiites) into power there, to oppress the Sunni and Kurds.

Yes but the Moors conquered the Iberian peninsula save a few cities and there was a war going on for 700 years before the Inquisition to recapture it.

That’s what college (university) is for. In college you can take history courses that focus on narrower sections of history instead of the broad all encompassing type of history class you get in high school. College also demands that you read more and study more than you have to in high school. The result is that classes can pack more material in a semester or quarter than they can in high school.

There is a world of information at your fingure tips. Don’t wait for other people to tell you stuff (especially the media) because they will always try to sell you their own propaganda. Find out for yourself if you are interested in something. Read a variety of points of view and then decide what you believe. That’s what I would suggest.

Or just go on Wikipedia and read articles and click interesting links. I find it easy to lose several hours at a time just doing this. So much information.

Agree. The information is probably out there somewhere if anyone wants to dig, as to when they booked their flights. Probably not far in advance because they had to coordinate multiple flights as best they could (even though one apparently ended up being delayed).

So it was a very big bomb, in a parked rental truck. Probably enough explosives to topple most buildings, but the WTC was pretty massively built. Very strong foundations and structure, but a crucial weakness that was later exploited in the 2001 attack. The 1993 bomb created something like a 200’ oblong-shaped open space in the parking garage and basement areas! I parked my car in there once (to do a show in the hotel above).

Could be they didn’t have as much choice on when to have the four flights in the air at the same time. Also maybe 15,000 people is enough. Maybe just knocking down the buildings would be enough for them, but they had to do it in the daytime so everyone could see it. Still, they chose a weekday rather than a weekend, guaranteeing more people in the upper floors.

For Skrobo: I thought school sucked when I was 8 as well. Are you talking about a public school? Some schools are much, much better than others, but public schools have to cater to the lowest common denominator, in a range of really intelligent kids who want to learn, to kids who may have undiagnosed learning problems and no motivation to learn. So, as in anything else, it’s up to you, the individual, to make the most you can of your situation. Cathwood’s advice was excellent in that regard.

Also Billy brought up a good point. Were you connecting the 9/11 attacks with the US invasion of Iraq? What’s your connection?

Why would anyone do that?

Both Osama and Saddam have two a’s. Coincidence? I think not.

Because obviously, misspeaking makes you an idiot. He does many things that make him a bad president, but butchering English isn’t one of them. That just makes him a bad speaker.

George Bush only got a passport once he became president.

Maybe he believed in dragons up until then?

Maybe that’s why he’s so bad at ‘ruling the world’

Have you heard the conspiracy theories? I don’t buy into them…But hey have some pretty good points. The media claimed that the fire burned and that caused the buildings to be weakend and thus collapse. But NO building in america has EVER collapsed from fire (like…skyscraper, steel built), even buildings that burned for much longer. Also, if you look at slow motion videos of the building collapsing, there are small explosions just barely ahead of the collapsing building as if it were rigged with bombs throughout to ensure it would collapse. If you whatch it, it looks eerily like the video of scheduled demolitions for old buildings. And the pentagon…man…the pentagon. Either the building would have taken MUCH more damage, or the crash before it hit the building would have done more than blacken the lawn and take out one lightpole. Plus, NO wings, tail, nose, or substantial plane parts were found at the sight of the impact.
