Is anybody out there to create vector graphic (scalable) logos? Our problem is, we have a logo (or two to be precise, unicycle related) in a pretty bad resolution, so we aren’t able to scale it up. The original data got lost. So, I guess, someone must somehow recreate it from scratch using the old one as a template. Who could help with this?
I haven’t used Illustrator or another vector software for a long time (I used to do exactly what you describe), but I could give it a try… But can you share your logo first?
We’d need those two:
Do you know what font was used for the texts?
No, unfortunately not. I don’t even know, who created this logo in the first place.
For a font of that nature, it should be pretty easy to find something so close, you might not even be able to tell the difference. Or it might look even better! The fun part will be the graphic of the unicyclist…
But fortunately, the only part of the logo that will require hand-tracing.
The rest is fairly easy to replace with existing vector graphics (as it is the map of Germany and some text on an outer-circle).
Let us know @Canapin if you need a hand
I begun working on it.
I want the vectorized logo as close as possible to the original design. I couldn’t find a similar map (simplified shape and slightly exaggerated irregularities). Vectorized ones I found on the Internet are too precise, with too many vectors, and the “simplify path” option from Illustrator won’t circumvent the issue. The map must be “hand-drawn”. I would take more time to find the right vectorized map on the Internet than draw it from scratch.
edit: work in progress…
A quick info.
Before working on the logo, I upscaled it with Topaz Photo AI - Maximize Image Quality on Autopilot since I have a license. It makes small parts (the hands of the rider for example) more recognizable and easier to re-draw.
It’s extremely impressive software. I used recently it to upscale many old (50s-90s) photographs and it did an incredible job, especially along Photoshop for the color rebalance.
The facial recognition and reconstruction are amazing as well.
The software is expensive, but the results are worth it.
Wow, that already starts to look great. I think it’s not so important to find the exact same font. Something that looks close, will do the job just fine.
What file type do you want? .ai?
(please double-check the text… German is so hard to read for a French )
Hi canapin, I have a Photoshop workaround to simplify a detailed map.
Photoshop->Filter->Noise->Median you can easily choose the simplification by selecting the Radius of the Filter. Then you can switch to Illustrator to automatically redraw the map.

The text is correct.
.ai and .svg would be perfect.
P.S. francais n’est pas tres facile aussie
Here it is: uni-logo.ai (3.3 MB)
Let me know if you need changes.
I’ll try the other logo next week.
I need it to add a glint on the EVD letters!
I’d like to be able to do it myself of course…
The current EVD is made as such:
How I would add the glint in my thoughts:
Either:
-
Create a large, oval off-centered gradient from transparent to white.
-
Add a mask that somehow only shows the gradient inside letters, ignoring the strokes
uni-logo alt.ai (3.0 MB)
Or:
- Fill the letter with a gradient, but I couldn’t find how to move the gradient center inside a text layer.
uni-logo alt gradient inside text.ai (3.0 MB)
Any idea?
I would have tried your first solution with the shape that contains the right gradient in a layer and then applied it as a mask on the layer with the letters.
If you get a problem of dithering on the yellow border too, the workaround would be to:
- duplicate the layer with the letters
- change the bottom copy to remove the yellow outline and apply the masking layer
- change the top copy to keep the outline but fill in with transparency instead of black
- tada!
Great job on both logos !!
Added a new Layer “Glare” to the Logo.

Wow, that looks amazing. Thank you all so much. How can the PDF be converted to svg?
As easy as “Save as…” in Illustrator. But it`s @canapin project, I just gave a hand, so get the final data from him.
ps: i can give another hand, if wanted.
Georg
Did you make it with Illustrator? If so, can you share the .ai file?
