Yesterday my family computer broke (wont power on and its like 8 years old). i don’t know much about the computer stuff, but which one would be the best put of these?? i want it fast for photo shop, a little video editing, and just goofing with… so just say the Coulomb #, and why its the best… oh and by the way they are all the same price and manufacturer.
now as i look at it, it may be hard to read… opps
I don’t know any more than you do but I do know that the picture is really hard to read.
i mac is that one
nope they are all windows XP
why
If you don’t know anything about computers and want to do video editing get a mac.
^ this man knows do as he said
If you’re getting Windows XP, you should try to get pro. I would go with the machine in the first column because it has a larger cache. Even though it has only 256 MB of RAM, it’s expandable to 2 GB (like all the rest). Get a 1 GB stick of PC3200 RAM and add it to the computer. It’s hard to read it, but that’s what I’d do with the available information.
I would also go with the first one on the list, the processor is faster and there is some more stuff i like about it.
Just do as sugar said, and just go buy some extra RAM for it, its pretty cheap.
AMD just dropped prices big time today to keep an even price/performance ration with Intel’s new Conroe (desktop Core Duo) chip. The Conroe kicks butt in performance and AMD had no choice but to lower prices. If you’re getting an AMD computer in the next day or so make sure you’re getting the new good price. I would suspect that the manufacturers are going to be offering new rebates to lower the price of the system to keep up with the new lower AMD processor prices. Ask them at the store if they have lowered prices on the AMD computers since the announcement of the price cuts.
Here’s an example of the price cuts for AMD processors. And another price list.
Price cuts are more significant for the higher end processors which are a step or two or three above what you’re looking at. Still, a price cut is a price cut.
Whatever you get, make sure it has a minimum of 512 MB of RAM. Anything less really slows down the computer. Especially since all those computers have integrated graphics chips that use system RAM for graphics and that steals RAM from the OS. Might even consider 1GB of RAM, either now or add it later.
NEWEGG.com best site ever.
Unless you’re in Canada. I don’t believe Newegg even ships to Canada.
i am in canada, i will try go get a better picture of the choices
new pic… now i hope this one is readable. I also removed all the stuff that is the same with all the computers…
compee.bmp (680 KB)
so what is faster and better, a high processor speed (3.20) and a low RAM (256) OR low processor speed (1.8) and high RAM (512)???
An AMD Sempron does more per GHz than a Celeron D. So you can’t compare 3.2 Intel GHz with 1.8 AMD GHz because it’s literally apples and oranges. That’s why AMD started using the Intel GHz equivalent number in their product names. So a Sempron 3100+ is approximately equal to a 3.1 GHz Celeron. A Sempron 3300+ would be approximately equal to a 3.3 GHz Celeron.
In benchmarks the 3.2 GHz Celeron D and Sempron 3100+ or Sempron 3300+ or are probably very close or equal in performance.
Here’s a review comparing the Celeron to the Sempron. But they’re only comparing up to a 2.93 GHz Celeron D and not the slightly faster 3.2 GHz version.
And you really really need at least 512 MB of RAM if you plan on doing anything more than running Microsoft Works on the computer. If you get one of the 256 MB computers you are going to have to get another stick of RAM before the computer will be useful for video editing or running Firefox.
Get a mac from store.apple.com. Click on the red tag on the right (you may have to scroll down a bit) to see refurbished computers. Or, just get a MacBook, iMac, or Mac Mini.
I think you should go the following direction for pc hardware.
- RAM (512MB bare min. for real video editing 1 gig recommended. More if its not going to make you sacrifice cpu speed)
- CPU (could be argued but most ppl don’t stand around their computers watching for a video to encode.)
- Graphics card. (to play games/whatever)
How much do you ballpark figure want to spend?
It is easier and cheaper to upgrade from high spec processor and low ram than the other way around.
The only other advice is to get one of the many PC clone systems. Avoid bespoke manufacturers who use their own motherboards etc. They are pricey to fix when they break…you can’t always buy a new part in the local PC shop for them.
