Anyone have any ideas of where to practice when you’re just starting out? I ended up in a puddle yesterday resulting in a roar of laughter and applause from a group of bystanders at a bus stop. Needless to say, it was very embarrassing!

I practice in tennis courts, at the local juggling club (which has a nice smooth indoor surface for really technical stuff that wind gusts could mess up), my driveway, and painted basketball courts. Any flat, smooth surface with something to hold on to for things you can’t ride into yet is usually good.
‘skate parks’ - not the kind with bowls but the ones with a few small ramps on flat asphalt - usually have a nice surface as well.
When I started, I rode up and down quiet back roads, mall parking lots, industrial areas (at night),…places like that. In terms of crowds seeing you, who cares. Soon you’ll be doing things on your uni that most of them won’t ever imagine doing. Most will be impressed, and for the rest (that may laugh and make circus jokes), well, they’re not worth even thinking about. Ride on.
hallways of dorms make good places to learn. also any space that’s flat and at elast semi-open will work. parking lots are great.
Matt and I were riding around in the Albertson’s parking lot showing off yesterday…we got a lot of cool comments…
