On my 26" MUni, I will switch from 165 to 137 if I have an opportunity to do some easy XC and don’t have my 36er on site. As for the 36er, I’m glad I learned to Schlumpf on 150’s but I’m ready to go back to my all time favorite length in 137s. I’m thinking 137mm is going to be the perfect compromise between leverage for high gear and length (shorter) for shifting. Plus, 137s are more practical for 1st gear.
We did not modify the d’brake at all, it worked as it was meant to, we just fitted 2 washers to position the calliper exactly correctly.
The container arrives on Tuesday and we have schulduled testing the production parts on Wednesday/Thursday with as many combinations as we can. We will put the outcomes on our blog and here.

Sweet
When will the new bits go up on the shop Roger?
I’ve been checking UDC US twice a day for this entire week. ![]()
I think that both US and UK have the containers on the same day. We will get the items on line ASAP. We will try to get some up on Tuesday, but no promises. I would have thought Wednesday is the best we could do in reality…
Roger
Looks like I might just be ordering myself a new KH26 frame and some Spirit cranks. I hope UDC US has compatible disc brake kits on the same day. ![]()
Sweet Payday on Thursday as well ![]()
That sounds a bit concerning!
Will it give you a freewheel effect?
It never has for me; no problems at all in that regard.
I see on UDC the disc brake assemblies they have posted are 160mm rotor I thought the disc set up used a 180 rotor?
The Spirit disk cranks are compatible with either 160 mm or 180 mm rotors. Personally I’ve been using 160 mm rotors.
K.
Thanks
So are the new frames also for both 160 and 180mm discs? Or would 180mm require modifications? I’m still trying to decide what to order, a new frame and cranks seem pretty obvious, but what sizes… ![]()
I think maybe a 29er frame would be cool for my 26er and 24er wheels and I’d have the option of adding a 29er wheel later on. But the crank size seems the harder thing to decide. 150/127, 165/137, or 137/110.

I run 140mm Tensiles on my Schlumpf 26er and 36er and I’m satisfied.
But the uphills are pretty tough, which kind of keeps me from ordering 137/110. I know it’s only 3mm less but it might make the difference of being able to ride up or walking. So the safer thing would be 150/127 or 165/137 but then 165 seems like overkill to me. So I’ll hold off until my mind’s made up…
If there were sets of 160/140 or 165/145 or 145/125, or even better triple 160/140/120 or 165/145/125 that’s what I’d order.
I’m digging it anyways. Also I appreciate the return to synthetic leather for saddle covers.
2Kris : Why is on this picture right crank (ready for rotor) on the left side:)?
http://www.krisholm.com/khu/images/products/kh24/gallery/medium/khu_kh24_complete_md.jpg
When this was brought to Kris’ attention earlier, he said the wheel was placed in the frame backwards. He intends for a new picture to be taken to replace that one.
The disc mounts on the frame are standard IS mounts as used on mountain bike forks. Hence you can use whatever size disc you want (160, 180 or even 203) - you just have to get the correct adapter to go between the mounts and your brake caliper.
I see, so no worries there. I think I’d go with 180 for 26er and maybe 203 for the 36er then.
I am currently using a 180 mountain-uni disc set up on my 36er and it works great, don’t see the need to go with a 203
I’m using 160 on Muni 26 and 29, will fit next week 180 with D-Brake on my KH36 and intend to modify Spirit cranks as Kris doesn’t plan to provide 3 holes cranks 110/127/150mm
I am weak. Just ordered all 4 DH Spirit cranks. Plan to order the new KH26 frame when I can. Decided to leave the stock KH26 together, but build the new frame onto my Guni wheel with Spirit cranks, DX pedals, and a disc brake. When I want to ride one or the other, I’ll just move the seat and seat clamp between them. ![]()
I want the Guni to be set up as close to stock as possible with disc brakes.
