I am in need of a stronger wheelset to put on a Yuni frame. I was wondering, do any of you know if there is a place that sells Onza wheelsets in the US? I have herd Onza’s are pretty strong, and cheaper than profiles. I don’t have enough money for a profile wheelset. Would the KH wheel set would fit a Yuni frame with a shim. (I will be getting a Yuni frame in a day or two.)
The KH hub/cranks were originally developed as a less expensive alternative to the Profiles, not as an improvement really. However, now that they’ve been out a while they seem to be turning out to be stronger more reliable. As far as I know, I don’t think that a pair has yet broken, which is not the case for the Profiles.
I don’t think the Onza wheelset is that much better than the KH and the KH is probably less and MUCH easier to find. It’s plenty strong. and as long as you don’t mind 145mm cranks and the nubs, it’s all good.
Sabin_a.: Yes, it will fit. I have a 26" Yuni frame mounted to a KH24 wheelset. It works great.
I realize that the stated bearing size and the stated mounting bracket size are different, but they do fit.
I ride one everyday!
If you are asking about a 20" wheelset and 20" Yuni frame, I have no idea. --chirokid–
Profile makes 145mm cranks, the only sizes currently available for KH hubs are 140mm and 170mm (as far as I know). 140mm should be a reasonable size for trials since heaps of people use 145mm profiles. You shouldn’t have to put up with the nubs. Unless Unicycle.com is getting rid of old stock with nubs, apparently the new ones have had them reduced. You could specify you want one without annoying protuberances and hopefully they’ll sell you them. Nubs aren’t too bad on 170mm cranks but surely they’d suck on 140s.
Rowan do you ride a KH wheelset?I do, 140mm is much better than 145, And for me at least. I’ve hit the nubs like twice in the last 6 months, I don’t see any reason not to get one…And if you’re gonna buy the whole wheelset from UNi.com since it’s $242 you might as well buy the Summit and get a free frame and KH seat for $250!
It should…I heard someone did, although it might take a little modification. It fits Darren Bedfords frames so yeah it should fit the Yuni. But I’m not sure… I’ll let someone else guarantee it.
Hey,
I bought a KH 170 mm hub/crankset for my Nimbus II frame (I think that’s the UK version of Yuni?) And the bearings fit well, but the spacers don’t fit properly- it doesn’t take anything away from the performance, just looks a bit weird! They’re really tough though! I have an Onza set for my trials uni tho and it’s pretty good! Fits easily and all that! And v.light!
Thanks for the info guys I recently e-mailed Darren asking if the KH 20" wheelset fit a Yuni fame. I didn;t specify splined but I think he got my drift.
