Whats the trick with quick-release clamps?

Glad this was finally said.

This is “the trick”.

Add a bit of oil/grease to the area where the QR contacts the plastic and it’ll be significantly easier to operate.

Then if it’s one with multiple clamps - tighten each one in order, then go back and do them again in order - you’ll likely find that it’s possible to tigten them more.

One thing you should never do with the Nimbus ones, is stick an allen key in the nut on the back and try and tighten it more that way - the amount of force you need to put into it to make a difference does not do good things.

Do you mean it does bad things to the clamp itself or the fork? I assume clamp. I was also told to never twist the quick release knobs themselves, so yeah, not sure.

It does bad things to the nuts - they’re not very tough, and the hex hole on the end will end up circular pretty quickly.
