Hehe… Good thing I was born during that time… as I probably had no concept of who was leading the country I lived in. Ah, to be young again, without any cares other than that my caretakers would feed me and take care of me…
I bet that all of us that recoginize this wish we could go back to that time where we had very little care in the world.
Yeah, I was worried he was actually going to get his hands dirty, something that US Presidents should never do. As we know from the current example, they should leave all dirty work to their VP, VP Chief of Staff, chief political strategist, and–of course–their Counsel to The President.
Jimmy could have taught Skipper and Gilligan a lot about hut building.
I’ve done 36-40 hours a couple of times, can’t recomend it. That was back when I was a bright young studenty thing and probadly again at one or other of the 24 hour races. the longest days i’ve worked , were about 20 hours from start time to finish with maybe 3x 30 min breakfast/lunch/dinnner breaks , we were building a set the first time, and re-lighting a Pantomime the day after it opened the second time. Again I was younger then and the european working time regs weren’t in place.
Blimey I thought 28hours was long enough. When on nights I used to take my son to playgroup and think to myself “By the time I do this again tomorrow I wont have gone to bed”. I hated it. Even at 28hours I was hallucinating gently by the time I got to bed I don’t know how anyone manages 40 hours.
Do you people drink coffee for all nighters? I’d guess that I’ve done about 15 all nighters all up (mostly around 36 hours) with this architecture course I’m doing and graphics back in high school…my problem is I don’t like coffee. Apparently though, it’s only a short term thing and will leave you more exhausted shortly after. Then I guess you drink more coffee, kind of like keeping on drinking to avoid a hangover. Gotta love that logic!
Apples!! Heh, when I satyed up all week, I used to dink a couple of cups of coffee at first, but it was really more a matter of keeping myself doing something. Because if I was doing something, I wouldn’t think about how tired I really was.
…something that’s not too repetitive though. Even after my all nighter the night before last night I was riding the motorbike home in the afternoon and felt myself drifting off…I really thought it would be easy to stay awake on a motorbike. I was concentrating so hard on staying awake (of course, I would have pulled over if I thought there was any chance of falling asleep).
I used to work three full time jobs during the week. I would start at 8:00am on Monday and work till 4:30pm, start at job 2 at 5:30, work till 2:30am and then start job 3 at 3:00am Tuesday and work till 6:00am. I would sleep till 7:30 and start again. I did that all week and slept on Saturday and Sunday, all day. 5 hours of sleep over 5 days kind of gets to you after a while.
I generally stay awake for about 2 days at a time (ignoring a 1-3hr kip) then sleep for about 15hrs… works out about the same as “normal sleep patterns” I was actually at school from Tuesday till Thursday this week, had an awesome sleep last night!
But the longest I’ve ever stayed awake without ANY sleep is 50-60 hrs, I’ve hit 50-60 several times and maybe I could do more but I’m a bit too much of a hypochondriac to try (even if assignments dictate I need to).
