What's the difference between a ultimate wheel and a immpossuble wheel?

Are they the same thing? And is it possible to ride a regular unicycle wheel without a frame and seat? Thanks.

ultimate wheel:

the pedals go around just like on a unicycle

impossible wheel:

the pedals stay on the axle (but spin) like what the caveman in BC comics rode on

What they have in common is this: both are a single wheel with cranks and pedals but no seat or frame. And ultimately neither is impossible.

The difference is this:

Impossible wheel (aka BC): coasting only

Ultimate wheel: pedaling only

A commonly asked question: Basically they are both impossible…but
seriously the ultimate wheel has pedals, the impossible has sort of axle
extensions that you leap/stand on and make vrumm, vrumm noises. Few get
past the first vrumm.

Thanks all. I understand now. Am I right in saying if you took the frame and seat off a normal uni it would be an ultimate wheel?

Most ultimate wheels have a narrow disk (as there is no need for an
axle that a frame can connect to). That makes riding it easier than a
regular unicycle wheel with the frame and seat removed. But also the
latter is not impossible to ride. Heck, an Impossible Wheel is not
impossible to ride. By others than me, that is.
