What's a unicyclist?

What’s a unicyclist?

Is it a state of mind?

Must you be able to actually RIDE?

5 feet?

Are you still a unicyclist after you/ve gotten so rusty you can’t ride anymore, or are you then an EX-unicyclist?

Billy

Billy,

You know that, largely, we’re a loving group. Don’t be ashamed that you can’t ride anymore. We’ll still play with you.

Peace and Love,
Jason

bom chika wow wow!

1) A unicyclist isn’t a clown. They’re the ones who like challenges. So they put aside their b*kes and try the next best thing. Which is the world of unicycling.
2) It is somewhat, considering you have to be in balance all the time. It isn’t like riding a bike where a majority of the time you can fall either left or right.
3) No one is ever perfect and (like other things) unicycling takes time to master/learn.
4) ???
5) You’re still a unicyclist on the inside even if you don’t have your unicycles no more.

Clowns can be unicyclists. They can even be good ones. They can even be lousy clowns. Actually, they can even be lousy unicyclists. A lousy unicyclist is still a unicyclist.

Usually when you say “next best” it means next alternative, or second choice. I would rather think of unicycling as the “next” thing, after bicycling.

What is a unicyclist?
Someone who unicycles. They don’t have to like unicycling. In rare cases, you can be a unicyclist who doesn’t even ride. This could be a former unicyclist (for example you lost your legs in an accident, or are just too old and feeble to ride anymore), or someone who’s very involved in the unicycling world but doesn’t ride.

Carol Brichford and Tom Daniels are examples. Carol Brichford ran a unicycle club, put out more issues of the USA Newsletter than any other person, and did tons of other stuff for the sport. Her kids rode. Tom Daniels was a supporter of the Panther Pride Unicycle Team when they decided to host a USA convention in 1999, then played an even larger role in 2002 as one of the main guys in charge of Unicon 11. He spent some time learning to ride after that, but I don’t know if he ever finished learning. He’s a unicyclist too.

Is it a state of mind?
It can be, but I don’t consider it a requirement.

Are you still a unicyclist after you’ve gotten so rusty you can’t ride anymore?
I’ve never seen anyone in this condition. Unless you’ve let your body go to pot so bad you can’t physically ride anymore, or if you’ve gotten too old and fragile or otherwise where you have some physiological barrier to riding again, this is possible. But of all the people we’ve met on trails and other places, some with over 20 years since they’d been in the saddle, all rode the unicycle after a few tries. When I’m too old to ride (hopefully not for many, many more years), I hope I will still think of myself as, if not a unicyclist, then a former unicyclist.

Do I have a Guinness record if somebody broke it later? Several years of Guinness Book say I am. I’m not a Guinness record holder, but do I still have a Guinness record?

1) I’m referring to the fact that people who ride unicycles are immediately recognised as clowns. Like me, i get called a clown even though i’m not. It doesn’t bother me though cause i just laugh it off and move on.
2) That’s a much better way of putting it John.

I see what you mean. We are immediately assumed to be clowns. “Being a unicyclist does not make one a clown.” How 'bout that?

Perfect.

At what point can we say you ride a unicycle? 5 feet while holding on?

Two cycles after letting go?

John,

If we’re just counting all the Guiness drank at all the UNICONS, I’m sure you hold the record!!

A clown who rides a one-wheeled bike.

You are only a unicyclist when you are actually riding
So you’re either going to be, or you are, or you were a unicyclist all in the same day.

I hate this thread

Haz and John…way to feed the troll. Clearly it was a rhetorical question.

A unicyclist is anyone who’s felt oppressed for their choice of sport.

A unicyclist is anyone who’s worked through weeks and months of failure just to make a seemingly insignificant amount of improvement.

A unicyclist is anyone who isn’t afraid to do what they love, despite the consequences that may come with it.

Doesn’t matter if they can ride or not. There are many of “us” out there, we just might not recognize each other at first.

Wherever a unicyclist’s been oppressed for their choice of sport, I’ll be there.

Wherever a unicyclist has spent weeks of failure for insignificant improvement, I’ll be there.

Wherever a unicyclist isn’t afraid to do what they love despite the consequences, I’ll be there.

Whether they can ride or not, if they’re a unicyclist, I’ll be there.

Is that Tom Joad or Tom Blackwood?

I LIKE it!! Truely inspirational!!!

Thanks!!

The black knight is not a unicyclist.

Billy, you’ve had nearly a month to meditate on this question.

Did you have any revelations you might share with us?
