What would it take to convince you to change your mind?

What would it take to convince you to change your mind to the other side of the religion debate, from the side you are on today?

If you are an atheist now, what would it take for you to believe in god?

If you are religious now, what would it take for you to believe in atheism (or not believe in god)?

Well… I pretty much don’t care if “God” exists or not.
I guess I’d have to see a picture of God holding a sign saying “I’m a muffin, are you?” to be convinced that s/he exists but I could still care less.

I think this whole “does God exist?” thing is kinda silly. God is irrelevent. Jesus is the man though.

Alcohol.

I doubt that anything that anything that anyone would say or do would make me believe that God exists as an entity that watches over us and has an active role in the world.

On less fundamental parts of my beliefs all I need is a good argument that combines logic and fills gaps in my own views to help shape the finer (more important) details of faith.

I am not going to believe something just because someone tells me to but if they lay down a good argument I will definitely consider their views.

Alcohol and then lots of money.

… it would take probably for god to actually start talking to me or just appearing in front of me or at least have obvious interference in my life of some sort, and (if we’re talking about the christian god) I would also require VALID and COMPLETE explanations in ALL of the many places where the bible has been disproven (that would be just to check I wasn’t going crazy and seeing god in front of me when hes not there).

If only the second part was done (the part with the explanations), however, I would become agnostic instead of atheist, possibly even leaning towards belief in god.

Do unbelieving Christian fundamentalists count as atheists? :stuck_out_tongue:

I might have different views if I were a robot or an alien.

Y’know, I was about to say something like this, too, but then I remembered the story of “Jesus”. “Jesus” is a transient that lived in my hometown.

As the story goes, “Jesus” was running from the cops one day with a massive quantity of LSD. Fearing his imminent arrest, he consumed the entire quantity. Ever since, he masqueraded around town, mostly on public transit, as “the son of God”.

Did I mention he also wore women’s clothing exclusively? That’s not pertinent to the story, though…

…thing is, if the real Jesus were here amongst us today, how could we not believe he was just another raving lunatic?

And as for “acts of God”, what’s to differentiate between those acts and modern technology? We can give the appearance of walking on water, of turning water into wine, we can heal the sick, give sight to the blind… “God” is going to have a tough time proving himself!

I was going to say one million dollars. But a million bucks just doesn’t go as far these days as it used to. To make me actually believe something outside my core beliefs might take as much as $5,000,000. If someone hands me that I’ll say “THERE IS A GOD!”

But seriously, I don’t know if anyone can answer that.

Correction, the non-theists can. Show them God. A convincing appearance might be enough to do it. For free!

I don’t have a very strong belief in anything, so mine tend to waver at the lightest touch.

John Foss is way over-priced. I’ll do it for $4,900,000.

Well i wouldnt of course believe ne guy claiming he was god. Im saying only if i saw god and also saw him to something that would be impossible to do if you werent god.

I could definitely see someone selling their beliefs on ebay.

I would never believe any of that rubbish!

These religion threads are getting pretty boring, can’t everyone just drop all this religion crap and stop trying to force it on us!

for this read “for I am a jealous people” by Lester Del Rey! enjoy!

Let me see what I have in my wallet…

with sufficient evidence i could be convinced god exists, but never that I should worship him. There are plenty fo things that are impossible wiht human technology, wouldn’t be that hard for him to prove himself.

I’m going to run with this.

It has been going on for thousands of years.
But now that you have made that suggestion, I’m sure it will stop!

“Kid, I’ve flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I’ve seen a lot of strange stuff, but I’ve never seen anything to make me believe that there’s one all-powerful Force controlling everything.”

I guess he was convinced later, though, when Luke ruined Jabba’s party.
