What was your first job?

I saw an article on Celebrity First Jobs yesterday. I know most of us are not celebrities but I’m sure we had a first job too.

So aside from chores, what was your first paying job?

Mine was a Plant Manager (grounds maintainance). When I was in Jr. Hi. my dad’s company built a new manufacturing facility on an acreage. My job was to pull weeds, transplant stuff, dig sprinkler line ditches & install the lines, and mow a couple acres of grass. Also had a Paper Route around that time too.

My first first job was iragating at a nearby ranch. Digging ditches and overflowing them onto the field.

And then after that, last two summers I’ve been logging with some friends of ours. Stacking, piling brush, and I did a lot of skidding logs too. That was pretty fun… but hard.

My first job was selling newspapers door to door.

My first and current job is Bike Mechanic and Unicycle Specialist(Thats what they call me cuz theyre all dumbfounded at the thought of 1 wheel) at my LBS. Its good work and it pays pretty good. I like it.

Pickin’ squash for $1.90 an hour! Man, i was in heaven with all that money.

first job was apartment grounds keeping.

after that was a hobby store which wasnt too bad, except there were alot of moron customers who would come in there.

and now since its summer im back doing the apartment gig.
its good pay, i get nine dollars an hour.
i do everything from mowing lawns and laying sod, to installing tile floors and new plumbing.

My first and current job is dishwasher at a local sandwich shop.

It pays 5.30 an hour, which to my knowledge, is less than minimum wage in my state.

Jobs are hard to find if you’re under 16.

I delivered newspapers when I was 8. I think my take home per week was around 40$, and that seemed great.

My first job was teaching sailing to kids aged 8-14ish. Great way to spend 8 weeks during the summer (1500 total).

I guess in middle school I made a website for my social studies teacher and was payed five dollars total.

At a fast food in the mall. It was really nasty. Especially cleaning the trays because you never know what was on it. Some you can easily tell its from Taco Bell (the sourcream and beef, ew) or like Sweet and sour sauce, but when you start getting those funky purple stuff, that’s when you start worrying :expressionless:

I worked as a data entry clerk for a now defunct company who was in the business of creating a searchable database of legal titles. If I remember correctly, I made a little more than $7/hour. Essentially I got to stare at microfiche with lots of boring legal jargon all shift long and input the distinguishing information (lots of dollar amounts, names, and geographic locations) into a database system.

The first job I had where they took out Social Security was working at our Boy Scout summer camp. That was in 1970 when I was 17-years-old. I got paid $5 per week. After they took out Social Security that left $4.88 per week. I made $40 that summer. I still have my pay statements and W-2 Form around here somewhere.

When I get my annual statement from the Social Security Administration, there is the $40 I made that year.

Paperboy.

During my summers in high school I worked for a guy that built and tuned pipe organs.

Mainly, I would just sit and hold keys at the organ while he tuned.

i waxed skis in a ski shop… it was fun

I worked part-time in the periodicals department of the college I was attending (before I dropped out).

People would request a certain periodical and I would go into the back room (into the stacks) to get it. The only hard part was remembering who to give it to after I found it.

Pie baker. They called me Flour Child.

Hauling hay, feeding cows, and various other farmwork.

Full time mum. Which is a vocational career. I started when I was 18 and have been doing this job ever since. I have also had other jobs along the way.
